Great thank you for the info. I was concerned about giving them their own space since my chicken coop is set up specifically for my flock to the point where they each roost in a specific spot every night.
I am definitely concerned with predators. Coyote, fox, bears, eagles and hawk are...
Hi everyone,
We have a flock of 6 chickens. All hens and about 2 years old. They have an elevated coop and an enclosed run.
I'm building a new run and also thinking about getting a few female muscovys.
My coop is fairly small, only about 24 square feet.
If I built the muscovys...
I had another sour crop hen I've been dealing with. She's been in a dog crate in the garage with garlic water and coconut oil for 5 days now. The liquids in her crop finally drained and she started pooping. Crop is much smaller and inflammation is gone.
I can still feel a small amount of grit...
Update for if anyone comes across this and has the same issue.
Crop emptied overnight after three days of coconut oil and crop massaging. Some plain yogurt got things moving well.
She's enjoying her mash feed now and passing it just fine. I'm mixing in prebiotic and electrolytes and going to...
Update: The crop did not empty overnight.
She is very hungry and looking for food. She drinks water perfectly fine and has been pooping out water and a few pieces of gravel regularly.
Should I keep witholding food and doing the same in hopes that the rest of the gravel passes?
Great thank you. She's drinking on her own and started pooping out some of the rocks. After she ate a bunch of coconut oil paired with massages, the crop doesn't feel as tight now.
I have her just with water and some globs of coconut oil for her to graze on. I'll keep this updated.
Hi all,
I have a 1 year old Golden Comet hen.
A few days ago, I noticed that she's been isolating herself from the flock when in the run, just digging holes. She also didn't come running when I gave them scratch grains. When let out in the yard, she scratched around with the others perfectly...
Thank you. It's pretty much textbook sour crop. She's very lethargic. Hasn't moved in my truck bed at all. I picked up monistat and I'm reading up on how to use it for her.
We have a ten month old hen who I found standing still in the run with her eyes closed.
Took her out and her crop is very full and squishy.
I massaged her crop and she threw up some brown liquid.
I have her isolated in the bed of my truck and she's standing still with her eyes closed...
Thank you. I called this morning and they are able to sex them. They sell them right when they can tell the males from females.
These are typical farm ducks, so interacted with, but not hand raised. Any chance I would be able to tame them?
I do know that they're raised with chickens, so I...
Yeah thanks. I only have an acre, so I don't quite have the room for a far ranging duck. My chickens stay within 100' of the coop all day long.
My concern is neighboring dogs. Unfortunately, it's about one million per acre here. Wish I had an extra million, but don't we all...
Shoot. I'll...
I just went and took a hen off the roost and weighed her (disaster by the way). She's the middle size of them and is 4.5lbs. I had no idea they've grown so much.
Definitely looking more into muscovys now.
I've only seen the ones at our local park and they were enormous. Must have been drakes...
