This may be a stupid question. We are going away for a few weeks and while I do have a chicken sitter, I felt the need to add extra water options to make myself feel better. I bought a second 1 gallon traditional waterer with the plan to put it in the run but then realized that having the sitter...
We have a chicken that I'm assuming has bumblefoot. She has a bubble looking thing with a little dot in the middle on the top of her foot in the webbing between toes. The problem is, we leave for vacation Saturday morning and don't have a chicken sitter that would be able to do anything. It...
We are going away for 2 weeks. I would like to make chicken care as easy as possible. Can I use a gravity water feeder for our chickens (like the kind you would use for a dog or cat)? We currently use a gravity food feeder with no problems. We currently have a chicken waterer hanging in the...
OP here--Do you think it would be possible for me to predator proof the setup? I can find someone to feed/water/check on the girls. Not sure if I can find someone to come over early and late to let in/out. Our neighbors installed a 6 foot privacy fence when we got the chickens, if that tells...
I would say time it and see how long it takes you to do it, then add some time since your new person won't know the routine as well and come up with an hourly amount. I was ready to pay our person $10 a day, just to let out and put away 3 chickens, topping off water and food as needed.
We have 3 chickens in our backyard. They are 100% in their coop/run. They are locked into the coop at night, it's just what we have always done. The run is covered sides and tops with wire (not chicken wire). The wire does not go into the ground. We just found out our chicken sitter will be...
ETA-- I think it is sour crop. She is squishy and swollen in the front and keeps acting like it annoys her. I have a dog crate to isolate her. Should I move her there, then water her as usual until bedtime and then do the 12 hours with no water? I dont want to stress her out too much by moving...
My 9 year old came in the house and asked me to keep an eye on her chicken today. She told me she looks paler than usual. I went and looked at her and is definitely not her usual self. We were not home for about 10 days and I think she has been acting off since we got home on Sunday. Her comb...
I've been nervous about this one for a few weeks now. These are about 10 week old Champagne Eggers. I feel like comb and wattle are a bit more pronounced but I'm more concerned about the lighter feathers around the neck and the slightly curled feathers near the tail. Behavior has been the same...
We just got back from a few days away from home to realize that our chicken sitter did not let the birds out of their coop this morning. It's mid 80s here and the coop is made of metal so a few of the girls had their mouths open by the time we discovered it. We live in town so we don't have a...
