I have considered Welsummers, but I was under the impression that Marans have much darker eggs. I will look more in to them!

The main reason I dislike feathered legs is due to the appearance. I have a bantam Cochin, and although I adore her, I can confidently say (behind her back, of course) that I prefer the look of my other chickens.

Long time no see, BYC. The results are in! After 8.5 months, another built chicken coop, and some serious comb growing and reddening - My little pullet has FINALLY decided to pop out her first little gem. And it’s blue! I got so excited I hollowed it out and spray lacquered it. :celebrate
The reason I believe the EE mother would be homozygous would be that if the Hatchery had heterozygous breeders, then offspring could lay white or non-blue/green eggs, which wouldn’t be ideal for their business model as a Hatchery selling blue/green egg layers. However, after reading about this...
The mother is an EE (“Ameraucana”, but actually not) from McMurray Hatchery, so I’d think that she would be homozygous for blue eggs. She has a pea comb.
