How many roos? (6 wk Easter Eggers/Backyard mixes)

Updated Photos of 1 and 3. 1 turned out to be a very nicely behaved rooster with lightly feathered legs (part cochin?) who has been allowed to stay. 2 was also a rooster, but not very nice, so he was rehomed. I don't have a photo, but he was solid blue. 3 turned out to be very striking. I...

    3 Roos?

    Agreed!

    A colorful roo?

Agreed--easter egger cockerel! He's got the pointy saddle feathers, super red comb/wattles, and red leakage on his shoulder/wing that's characteristic of a rooster.

    Roos or hens?

Is your rooster barred? If not, then you'll any chicks that turn out barred that he's definitely the dad of are males. Barring is sex-linked--when you cross a barred hen by a non-barred rooster the boys are barred and the girls aren't. (Of course, if you have non-barred hens you could also end...

How many roos? (6 wk Easter Eggers/Backyard mixes)

They're my parents' chickens--I'll see if I can get updated photos (though I'll warn that my dad's idea of "good" photos isn't necessarily mine, lol)

Not sure of the breed or gender.. anyone? Help?

At 6 weeks I'd put money on that being a rooster. That's a super red comb and large wattles for that age. Delawares do have a barring gene. Because they are also Columbian (meaning the black is restricted to their extremeties), the barring is barely visible on pullets. It is more visible on...

    Help! Pullet or rooster?

I think the coloring of her hackle feathers is emphasizing the pointiness. Pullets have pointy hackle feathers, too, just less pointy/wispy than roosters. Hers look like pullet hackle feathers to me. The easier tell for feathers is the saddle feathers--hers are nice and rounded. At 9 weeks a...

Any guesses on the breeds of my pretty babies??

I'd be hesitant to use size/build/leg thickness to determine sex, especially since we're not entirely sure what the breed is--different breeds have different builds. As for breeds--they're all hybrids of some sort, and I wouldn't feel confident saying which sort. The first could probably be...

    Ameraucana Roo?

Saddle feathers look nice and round, and at 11 weeks you would probably (though not definitely) start to see the pointy saddle feathers of a rooster. Is that gold/lemony leakage on the wing, though? Perhaps that's just the lighting of the photo, but I'd keep an eye on it.

Sexing 3-- Easter Egger, Splash Wyandotte, and Lavender Orpington

I’m most experienced with Wyandottes, so I’ll chime in there. Male blue/splash laced Wyandottes start to develop patches of unlaced/solid red feathers on their shoulders/wings around 8-12 wks. This is more dependable than combs, IMO, because Wyandotte pullets often pink up early. So far the...

How many roos? (6 wk Easter Eggers/Backyard mixes)

Do you maybe mean 5 is a pullet rather than 6? They're similarly colored, but 5 has a small, pale comb and everyone's been confident that it's a pullet.

How many roos? (6 wk Easter Eggers/Backyard mixes)

That would be great! They've discovered an unplanned rooster among their batch of 11 wk old feed store chicks, so the fewer in this batch the better!

    Black sex link or Australorp

She looks more like an Australorp to me--the black legs/eyes/beak and greenish sheen to the feathers. Black sex links have visible leakage (usually red) around the hackles, though the amount can vary, and I'm not seeing any in these photos.

What color this chiks will be when grow up?

I agree. Mostly brown/black, with a lighter brown head and patterned or laced feathers.

    TSC might have duped me

This. You'd expect Marans chicks to have feathered legs. This amount of comb growth seems normal to me for a black sex link this age.
