I am in my second season with the Premier fence. I've had very good luck with it and it is showing no signs of aging yet. I use it around the lawn which is kept mowed fairly short. If the grass does get a little long, I can hear the fence shorting out on the grass. I have one of the more...
I just processed a couple buff orp roos tonite that were becoming a PITA. They were about 14 weeks. One dressed out at 4.25 and the other at 3.5 pounds. They will be oh so yummy slow cooked on the rotisserie Only 7 more to go. Time to order some hens. Never again will I get chicks from...
My TSC chicks are growing up fast. I was told they were golden comets and assorted reds. I don't think any of them are golden comets. I think 5 of them are buff orps. The others..not a clue. Can you help me out? Heres a sample of pics. Thanks!
#1 Buff Orp? - pullet? I don't see any...
Well, I took a gamble getting chicks from TSC. Lesson learned. I just found a local farm that raises Buff Orps and Australorps. I love my Australorps. Even my roo is laid back and friendly. I'll see if I end up with any hens in this batch and if not, I'll get some BO's and Australorps from...
Chicks are growing fast. I'm still not sure what the light colored ones are. Two of them have no markings on their wings. The others have speckled wings. They are getting whiter by the day so I don't think they are golden comets like I was told. I'm starting to think I have a lot of roos...
I went to TSC to get some chicks and came home with a dozen. I'm not so sure they were labeled correctly or that the kids didn't put them back in the wrong bins. Anyways, all is well with them and I'm hoping to end up with some hens out of the batch! I took 6 Golden Comets and 6 straight...
I lost an 24 week old Australorp this afternoon. Went in to check for eggs. All the hens were busy scratching around the coop. Went back an hour later and one was dead on the floor. No trauma, missing feathers, etc.. Her neck was all limp. She was of course still warm because it happened...
Mine tend to walk up and down the ladder when just strolling about. If I walk in the coop with the treat container, they hop straight to the floor at my feet. They don't want to miss out taking the long way!
Delicious!!!! Moist, flavorful. I let him set 24 hours after processing. I did not soak him in a brine. I simply rubbed him down with some olive oil and Bells seasoning. I cooked him in the enamel roaster at 275 degrees. The meat pulled apart with a fork.
I've got an Australorp roo in the oven right now. Dressed out nice at about 5 lbs. He was 23 weeks old. Nice looking bird. I'll let you know how he turns out!
My 8 girls just hit 24 weeks today. I've been getting 6 eggs a day for the past four days now.
4 Australorps
2 White Plymouth Rocks
1 Silver Laced Wyandotte
1 Gold Laced Wyandotte
Here is my roost and droppings board setup. I have 2-3 inches of shavings on the dropping board. The deep litter on the floor of the coop itself is staying very clean after about four months. I sift through the shavings on the droppings board with a kitty litter scoop on a regular basis. I...
Mine are 12 wide x 12 deep x 14 high. My hens are just starting to lay and figured out what they are for quickly, with the help of a couple golf balls in each. Its comical to watch them get in the box and maneuver the golf balls under themselves. The girls are out there baking something up...
I've been figuring one would have to go. I was only supposed to have one. The second was an oops in sexing from the supplier. So far, they have been very good roos as far as temperament towards people so I was hoping they would continue to behave with people and be reasonable with the hens...
