I have a male and female Pekin that will be laying/mating age very soon. I've heard that ducks in generally aren't the best egg sitters. Is it at all feasible to let momma duck try and tend the eggs herself, or should I just go straight to incubation? Just curious on opinions.
I know that this thread is months old - but you CAN have chickens in "unicorporated Lee County" which is North Fort Myers. Now, gated communities and apartments obviously have their own rules. But out here in the North Fort, chickens is fine.
Also. It's possible mom is a Welsummer... But her legs are kinda dark.... And I didn't think they had black/dark brown babies. Then again... I've no idea what kind of rooster dad is

Also in Florida, first time chickeneer here. Just got two RIR chicks today, after much time spent researching here on this site. Good to know about the shade (for when the young-ins go in their coop). Luckily we have plenty of trees in our backyard to accomplish this.
