Actually, it seems like her nasal passage is partially blocked -- they were dust bathing earlier and eating some powdery feed -- maybe something got up her nose -- she's inside with her friend Badger for comfort (I don't think it's contagious because it happened all at once) -- they are in the...
Help! I just encountered a new thing -- all of a sudden I became aware that Ladybug was making this very weird noise -- like a honk or bray -- it's like something is stuck in her breathing tube. It's not going away and gets worse when she's trying to talk. It's almost like the passage from her...
Upon further googling and checking it out on the internet I am pretty convinced it is a spur. Weird! She is still laying so not yet a rooster -- ha, ha...
Okay, so I have a GLW with bumblefoot. I had been treating her last year with GSE, herbs and epsom salts foot soaks. She got her feet wrapped up with vetwrap and she appeared to be well in every other way -- lays regularly, normal poops, scratching around, etc. But over the winter when I wasn't...
So one of my hens laid three "cocktail onions" on the roost last night. That is what they looked like. They were soft shelled eggs with no yolks. Two of them were connected and one was misshapen -- coming to a point where it connected to the other. I think the culprit was one of my two Buff...
I adore my BOs as pets but as layer they are useless. I lost one to egg binding and have another with egg yolk peritonitis and the other one has just started only laying once a week or so. They are now two years old but the weirdness with the first two started before they were a year old! The...
I just found 3 of these eggs under one hen on the poop board this morning. They were soft shelled as well. They looked like the size of cocktail onions. Is this something to worry about?
What do you use to worm them? I have never done it and my girls are 1 1/2 years old. I give them apple cider vinegar in their water and had there poop tested in the spring -- no worms.
Thanks for the responses! It makes me feel better to hear that this is not abnormal. I just wish she would eat more!!! I guess if she is eating something each day and drinking plenty of water (with Rooster Booster in it every other day) then she will get through this. She is skinny to begin with...
Hello -- this is my second experience with molting and one of my B.O.s is molting like crazy and fast!!!! She is losing all kinds of feathers all at once. Her bottom is bald. Her wings look awful and she is not eating. She is obviously uncomfortable but will only nibble at food here and there. I...
I am very interested to know how Priscilla is. I have a Buff Orp, Mama Pajama, with egg yolk peritonitis and I am bringing her in to a darkened room early (only 8 hours of daylight a day) -- she appears to have stopped laying internally (or at all). I have another girl who was getting egg bound...
I'm so sorry farmdude! I had that happen to my Buff Orpington. The egg was coming out sideways. I had read that you stick your gloved/lubed finger in the vent and help rotate the egg. Sounds scary but it was easier than i thought. I just pushed the egg so the pointy end poked out her vent -- she...
Hello,
My 1 year old B.O. Mama Pajama has been having quite a time of it. She hasn't laid since 3/27 and when she did it was 2 eggs on the poop board at night -- one hard and one soft. Her abdomen was swollen and I feared internal laying. She and her sister Nicky who was laying giant misshapen...
Thanks Sorin! I feel really sad right now because I talked to the guy at the feed store about Nicky and he said I should put her down because she's laying big eggs and will eventually prolapse. He said I could try black boxing her (giving her only 8 hours of daylight) to see if she will reset...
