What killed my pullets? Caution Pics included

I had NO IDEA. My poor little chickens. I had them separated from the big chickens to keep them safe because I hatched them in an incubator and they didn't have a mama chicken to protect them from the big hens. I kept them in the house (basement) for months and finally put them in their own...

What killed my pullets? Caution Pics included

Can anyone help me determine what killed my little pullets by looking at these pics? They all have blood on the back of their heads. 8 of 10 were killed and we can't see where the coop was compromised. Poor babies.

    Terrorized by roosters! HELP!

I've had nice and crazy mean roosters. Any rooster that dares spur gets his spurs dremeled dull. Their harmless without sharp spurs. I've heard of people removing rooster spurs with pliers but I've never done this. There are U-Tube videos on how to remove spurs. You shouldn't put up with a...

How to move chickens from 2 separate coops to 1 coop in new barn.

We are building a new barn and will want to move our 12 hens and 1 rooster along with 10 additional hens from a second coop together into the barn. We know to have a proper set up with roosts and next boxes etc. Just wondered if advice could be offered regarding the best way to encourage...

Setting hen removed an egg from the nest and pecked it open dead chick

Quote: So sorry about your chicks that didn't make it... Thanks for taking the time to share your story with me. Glad she has a chance to express her motherhood. I can't wait for my hen to raise chicks. I've incubated chicks once but haven't seen a mama hen with chicks.

Setting hen removed an egg from the nest and pecked it open dead chick

Makes sense the hen knows what she's doing. Thank you for your posts. I hope the eggs start hatching soon. Though it was terribly sad to see the little dead chick I was rather happily surprised to see how far along it developed. We recently had a large tornado come through our town of Phil...

Setting hen removed an egg from the nest and pecked it open dead chick

Any idea why setting hen pecked egg open to reveal dead underdeveloped chick? Expected the eggs to begin hatching yesterday - Sunday (21 days in nest). She has 8 eggs left. I'm hoping they'll hatch soon. Might they all be dead?

    Broody Hen Thread!

We have broody hen sitting on 9 eggs. Originally 10 but somehow she lost one during tornadic activity. We live in Phil Campbell Alabama. The chicks are scheduled to begin hatching tomorrow. Hope the tornado didn't cause trauma to the eggs/chicks. We'll see... I have a pic of Hannah Hen...

I'm giving up on this whole rooster thing.

Has anyone dremeled their roosters spurs? I don't want to recommend it, however, we have one rooster that attacks and have dremeled his spurs so he's harmless. We just take the point down so he doesn't break our skin. Dremeling has to be repeated at least every six months. We keep our...

Hen with thorn in foot in between toes

Thanks for the warning. Our hen let us clean it completely and we were not timid about getting it completely clean. There was nothing left in the foot. There's a hole right through the foot so you can see completely through. She is good to keep bandages in place and enjoys daily treatments...
