That doesn't look like a pure SFH. Where did you get the chick? Is it possible it may be a cross? For anyone new to this breed I would highly recommend reading this thread from start to finish. It will take a long time but if you truly want to learn everything you can, it is invaluable.
Day 19 here. I just upped the humidity about 10 minutes ago when I started hearing cheeps. 13 out of 19 legbars made it to lockdown from shipped eggs (although I have my doubts about 2 of them), and 6 of my own Swedish flowers. I have the best luck if I wait until internal pips before...
thats kinda what I was thinking, maybe a cross between a flower and an orp. His skin color and comb aren't right for a SFH in my opinion either. Im no expert though, so maybe more will chime in. He is pretty cute though, whatever he is.
did you get him from a reliable source? Those pullets look great, but to me that Cockrell seems off. The feathering, color, and legs look wrong. He reminds me of how my orphington boys feather in.
yeah! I hope you get lots of little striped chicks, and only a couple head spots. My legbars are on day 13. So far 13 out of the original 19 are going strong.
Thanks. Yes, the hand warmers worked great but MAN those things get hot. I had to be really careful the chicks didn't overheat.
I think once I clean out my incubator I am going to try some experiments with the hand warmers to see what happens if I try to use them to keep eggs, not chicks...
My power is back on. 100% hatch rate. All the chicks did just fine thanks to some hand warmers I got from the feed store. The two that were still just pips when the power went out had some major sticky-chick issues, but I was able to assist them out and give them baths. I'm not sure how the...
Have you tried dry hatching yet? When I first started hatching I kept the humidity way to high and got a lot of lockdown deaths. Do they seem to be in the correct position to hatch? I also got a lot of mal-positioned and wrong end pippers until I finally broke down and got an egg turner. You...
She looks like a double crested SFH to me. I believe if you breed her to your non-crested roo you will get 100% crested chicks. I could be wrong about that so someone correct me if I am. Have you felt her head to see if she has a vaulted skull?
