Kookies are quite vicious. That laugh they have is thier way of asserting their position in the family group. If they are away from the group for more than a few days they lose thier spot and are killed when reintroduced. So much for cute little laughing kookies.
Thanks everyone. The first 4 chicks are all the same age ot of the same hatch from the same person. The light one is about two weeks older hatched under my broody. Ill try and get a photo but roger has a wierd comb. Like two combs instead of one. If all but pingu end up as roos ill have to get...
These 5 ducks were hatched out by my broody duck out of eggs I bought off someone local. They are around 5-6 weeks old. The lady I got the eggs off said they were a mix of Khaki Campbell, Silver Appleyard and Indian Runner. My problem is I have no idea how to sex them. They all look exactly the...
So these are my babies in their preteen years so to speak, I'm thinking that one of my Blue Australorps is a Roo but I'm not sure about the rest. Any guesses that might be more educated than mine? The Blue and Gold Laced chicks are all about 4 weeks old. I got them all at the same time as day...
With my chicks I made a little outdoor run. I bought a cheap wooden foldable cot that had no base and cut the legs off it. I covered in it chook wire and cover it with a piece of colourbond fence type stuff or wood with a brick on top. I even got a piece of bottle brush branch and hung it off...
So my chicken math is all wrong. The lady who sold me my last lot of chicks is having a downsizing sale. She is selling her next lot of chicks for $5 each! Silver laced wyandottes and silver sussex sound like they should be in my flock. But as i cant free range for more than a few hours daily...
Hello chicken friends all. I am still more of a stalker than a talker. My 6 month old son has decided that sleep is for the weak and cut down his naps so not much opportunity for typing. My chicks are growing and getting a bit too big for their brooder so I have started putting them in a little...

So on the subject of identifying chicks. I have this little one which was the survivor of miss Blackie's less than stellar sitting skills. The woman I bought the eggs off said that she has 41 chooks with a mix of breeds but out of the options I've narrowed it down to two possibilities. Either...
Well she kept them warm all night but when i went down there this morning she had left them all in the nest. When i tried to put them with her and her chick she tried to peck at them. So back up to the brooder they came. my daughter will be happy at least. She cant hold the parent raised ones as...
