Thank you all for the advice. I actually do have VetRx on hand and will get the permethrin spray tomorrow. I plan on applying the VetRx tonight. None of my other chickens have any symptoms of scaly leg/face and look relatively normal. I also checked my precious polish hen for mites around her...
Hi everyone.
So just today I noticed that my Dorking hen, probably around 5 yrs. old or more, has a pretty swollen face (I’ve attached a picture below). Besides that, she is acting fairly normal, foraging, etc. My concern is that, if it is some sort of disease, the rest of my flock may become...
Not sure what type of hawk it was, I only got a small look at it. Hopefully I'll see it again soon to find out. She was actually the smallest bird in my flock, not sure if she was a bantam or not. My concern was that even though she was small and defenseless, it looks as if the entire attack...
UPDATE: So it is definitely a hawk, I heard and saw it in my neighbors yard. Today it left behind a bunch of feather in my yard of some sort of wild bird, so I'm glad I left all of my girls in. What should I do to get rid of this problem?? I think it might be nesting next door, which is...
That sounds like a good idea but I don't own a gun:hmm. Thanks for the tips though, I only have one Polish left and you bet I'll be watching her like a hawk (no pun intended). She has always had no problems getting around luckily.
Hi guys,
I have around 20 hens and a couple roosters (and about 10 ducks) which free range everyday before I put them away at night. Unfortunately, today I was in for an awful surprise. I won't go into detail, but 1 of my Buff Polish hens, which I gave haircuts to often because she just could...
Wow, your story sounds a lot more interesting than mine. I just got an email from TSC and desperately had to restrain myself from running over there. I'll probably get stuck with some chicks anyways because one of my ducks is on eggs, and no doubt there are some chicken eggs under her as well...
x2 Crazy for Chickens. Red wattles that early on usually means rooster, I think your instinct was right:( However, it does depend on their age. The Australorps in this pic, seen at 7 weeks, are really easy to tell apart. Because it looks like your chick is a couple weeks younger and already...
Just by the comb I think it's a he, usually the hens don't develop any pink or red/larger combs until later on. I saw that you have other chicks as well too, and now I really want some more but I already have too many:hmm:lol:. You can compare this Cuckoo with the other chicks just to see the...
Without a picture, it is tough to tell, but to me that description sounds like some bantam buff brahmas.
If they are brahmas, you are very lucky! What a great breed!
Thanks dunnmom, and I did notice that she was missing some feathers in the back. I looked up possible causes and I just thought it was moulting. Definitely not mites. I'll try to figure out what's going on. Could a rooster cause that?
