new to this but I seem to have small grayish bugs all over me when I feed or water my chickens. I don't know if they are lice or mites, not sure of the difference, but can anyone advise what to do?
I have all three hens and the 14 chicks in a 8 x 16 foot area and they are fighting still but the one insists on digging even in her box and she is throwing the 2 day old chicks everywhere. I have rubber flooring down so she is having fits about that too. I am concerned that she is hurting the...
Yes I did take a looksie. I have been getting some bad advice from a guy that I thought knew what he was doing. It makes sense now that you explain it that the humidity is so critical to the hatching process. This is my first go round and I don't usually let the hens lay on eggs.
I had one chick that had a dime sized hole pecked out of her shell but seemed to be having problems getting any further. In the evening I went to close up and the mom had pushed the egg out to a corner of the nest and it was cold and still hadn't made much progress. I got her out of the shell...
Thanks. I have seven babies now but most of my easter eggers eggs didn't hatch. The one that did is blue grey and white... really pretty. Should be interesting
I guess I need to read up on the yolk being absorbed and turning and all that stuff. I never let them sit on eggs before and have only had chickens for a year. Is it ok to have two roosters? I could only get straight run on my second lavender orpington and I have a feeling he is a rooster...
This is my first time with letting my broody hens hatch and raise. I have two out of 10 eggs hatched and momma is covering them, but will she take them out of the box and teach them to eat and drink? I don't know how long to let her sit on the nest before stepping in to help the hatched ones.
This is my first time with hens setting and two of them don't seem to ever get off the nest. They are looking pretty rough. Should I try to take them off for food and water?
My entire lower barn is a chicken run and they chose the smallest old feed boxes to nest in that they could find. I don't know how they even fit in them. Only one of the three chose an actual nesting box and it is plenty big. The other two are 13 inches square but the one hen is sitting on a...
I think I will let them hatch first so they don't leave the eggs, then move them to a more secluded spot. I have a few freestanding coops with nesting boxes and runs that I can use. I am building another also. I don't think these would get along well together...they are the three nastiest hens...
