How many ducks per drake is too many?
So here is the problem, I bought six ducklings at TSC a few months ago, two were drakes and four were ducks. Then, I ordered some ducklings, one drake and four more ducks. Anyone know what breed of duck this is?

Letting ducks swim
Unless you live in the city or largely populated area, I can see why you don't let your ducks swim much but I don't know why you wouldn't let them swim if you are able to let them. Ducks are made for the water and enjoy swimming very much. Ducklings can be allowed to swim but they should be... -

The black one is probably a cayuga, and the yellow is probably a pekin, unless the dark color on its face is not a shadow. If it is down color, it may be a runner -

I totally agree. Chickens just aren't bred for surviving off the land alone. However I have noticed that chicks that were hatch and raised by hens are much more "gamey" and self-reliable than ones raised in a brooder.- Lanicus

How many Chickens can feed themselves on 1/3 acre?
I currently have 4 hens on about a 1 acre area, they are constantly eating and wandering but do still come back to the coop to eat, though not very much- Lanicus

Silver Appleyard mix duck gender help?
Since they are mixed breeds I think it would make it harder to tell, although they look old enough to be able to voice sex-meaning the females will have a loud quack while males have a much quieter whistle -
Heat lamp and Ecoglow... am I doing it wrong?
What kind of bedding are you using? Also, how close is the heat lamp to the ground. I have only used a heat lamp and have never had any fire problems. If the chicks are just a few days old they still need high temps to stay warm- Lanicus
