When the fake eggs don't work...

I'll try that too...I'll deal with eggs on the floor if they insist, but at least maybe I can keep them from sitting under the roost.

When the fake eggs don't work...

Thank you! Our nesting box is about 2 feet high with a step in between.

When the fake eggs don't work...

Seeking any advice or similar experiences from those who've been there. Two of my 5 hens are laying. The first started laying before we finished building the coop's nesting box. She dug her own little nest in the corner of the coop (though not dark or private), which just happens to be under the...

    24 weeks and no eggs?

My girls are 30 weeks now and just two are laying. One started at 25 weeks, the other started yesterday. A bunch of late bloomers!

    24 weeks and no eggs?

My BO started to squat at 24 weeks and laid her first egg at 25 weeks. I have 4 other hens who have yet to lay (all the same age). I thought for sure my RIR would have started to lay by now! I'm starting to get really impatient, but it's fun to go outside each day to find the lone egg.

Very excited to announce our first eggs! I found 2 small brown eggs in the coop on Sunday. Picked up a cold egg, brought it inside...went back to the coop an hour later and found another one, this one warm. My first fresh, warm egg! My girls are 25 weeks old. Eggs on my counter. Sorry...

Have your chickens started to squat yet?

I'm looking for the squat but haven't seen it yet. Can't wait. My ladies are 18 weeks old tomorrow. Thanks for the photo!

How sad. I realize that I have NO IDEA what it must have been like to have to evacuate. But I promise you that I would be VERY aware of the 5 little feathered beings that are out in my backyard. Those firefighters are wonderful people.

That photo of the crayfish on the platter with the corn is gorgeous! And I love the cute sneaky girls stealing some. Minchi, I'm there with you, I probably have the same medicated starter feed that you have. Kiowa Country Corner recommended the same thing that the feed bag says, to feed...

gardendufus, Babe is beautiful! I have an 8 week old SLW (Miss Pecky Sue) who looks a lot like Minchi's. I just noticed in the last two days that her comb and face are looking much redder. And, just mentioning because I'm really excited about it, my Buff Orpington is starting to look so...

Mo, I can't wait to hear about your chicks! I thought I wanted 3 or 4, and I went with 5. (Four different breeds.) Now I wish I could have more because I really love my Rhode Island Red and want more RIR girls. Maybe next year. I also promised my husband that we can get him his Jersey Giant.

I can't believe what it looks like out here by my house in eastern Parker. So incredibly smoky. I just spent the last half hour trying to find out if a new nearby wildfire popped up or if the storm clouds have brought the Waldo Canyon smoke all the way over here. It's so bad I had to close...

I bet it would help. We just finished building our coop about a week ago and weren't ready to construct a run yet, but with this heat we made a quick "emergency" run for my chicks. We have few trees, so no shade at my house. I put some beach towels over the top of the run to give them some...
