Why impossible in Wisconsin? I remember a northern lights display when I was in Illinois. I would be inclined to say rare is more likely.

As for the no incubator thing. Do you have something like a small box? If you have that and some way to keep the heat around 101 degrees Fahrenheit in that space then you have a good start on making one.

@Lifeiseasy I hope your chicks are okay after yesterday.
My power is out, but it is 80F outside which means things won't cool down very fast. I am glad for that with an incubator that still has eggs in it. And 3 recently hatched chicks.
So sorry for your loss and thank you for the heads up. Is this the one that seems like or causes liver failure? Or is that yet another tick borne illness for cats?
Just an observation here. If you were to go the route of housing goats and chickens together... they would likely need an integration period.

It sounds like you are doing what you can with what you have.
Having a rooster may prove to be a good thing if you do go back to free range. Some roosters are excellent at sounding a warning of predators.
