Wanted to give an update. For some reason I didn’t get any notifications from this post lately but I wanted to let everyone know I am getting 3 eggs a day (out of the 5 hens) again and I don’t have any evidence that they’re eating anymore eggs. They are eating more of their feed now. I stopped...
Today I couldn’t really get out there as much but I got two eggs again by the same two troublemakers. So I don’t know if they ate any eggs. I have a family member from out of state here for a few days but they ate a lot more of their feed. They were still confused that I didn’t give them treats...
I got two eggs, I do believe I lost two or at least one. It started snowing again and they stayed in their covered run. I did find the second fake egg, finally. I think I will get those Painless Blinders. So tomorrow I’ll compare what happens to today.
I got TWO EGGS. I think purely out of confusion. 😆😆 I got pecked a few times on my hand as well because where are the treats?? But I’ll update later today and later tomorrow to compare. I also grabbed my bird cage with wheels I used when they were chicks. I’ll have to clean it up in case I have...
Yes. They need adequate space. They have a covered run from the elements and an uncovered area (meaning it’s enclosed but is open to the weather) that has snow and ice in it and they aren’t fond of it right now. I added more shavings for their feet but with the snow they’re choosing to stay in...
It’s the local ordinance. They must be in an enclosed space. We have probably more leeway than most because there’s no limit on where the coop must be or how many chickens we can have. The only two rules we have is that we cannot have roosters and they must be completely enclosed.
I was hoping to use the extra fake eggs for that. I’m thinking about getting some golf balls to make it even more unpleasant for them to chip at. But I have now cut off their treats and they were pretty confused but hopefully that causes them to eat more of their feed and hopefully that helps...
