Charlie is a year and a half year old rooster that needs a new home. He is a fantastic rooster - generous to his hens, very protective, incredibly diligent about keeping everyone in line. He was adopted as a hen and was a bit of a surprise! He has been with us for a year now, but the...
OK another follow up here! Henny Penny just got another lead test after 2 rounds of calcium EDTA chelation. Keep in mind that she is back to eating, drinking, being top chicken and bossing everyone around.... her lead level is still higher than the test will read, over 65. The vet is baffled...
As a quick follow up the vet said she looks great! She starts 3 more days of shots tomorrow then back in in a week to get the lead test. Still not her old self but almost there! Last night she even slept out with everyone in the coop - she had the strength to roost!! Still working on eating...
Wow. I'm hoping that's not the case here. She is on her fifth and last day of EDTA calcium shots and is doing better. I brought her outside with the other girls ( thought it would help as she's the too chicken). She still has problems standing and certainly doesn't have her full appetite and...
She did get a dose of that when she was in. Do they really help? The vet said she was unsure of their real affect. Is there one that you know of that does help? I'll take her back in for more if that's the case.
Thank you for the link! She has had a great appetite today actually and has even drank a lot of water. She still can't stand well and is very very tired. This has been the third full day of treatment. My concern at this point is that her crop still isn't really moving! She does seem to eat but...
I want to update you that I did take my chicken to the vet on Monday to find out that she had very severe lead poisoning, which is what was actually causing the sour crop. she is on a treatment, but the vet said she has a very slim chance of making it because the levels were so high. Something...
Thank you. This was very helpful. She's still alive as of tonight but I'm so worried about her! I've emptied her crop a few times this morning and got some fluids and probiotics back in. Hoping she'll make it till Monday when the vet is back! Thank you for pointing me to this.
My beloved EE has sour crop. she was going through a nasty molt, so i didn't catch it until quite late, as she wouldn't let me near her. Three days ago i started her on monistat. i try to jam 1/3 or so of a suppository down her beak. she's not a fan, but we do our best. i see her drink bits...
I've got a hen that is 100% (eating, running, frisky as ever) but this morning she started with a raspy crow. She doesn't have labored breathing or anything, it's just when she crows it sounds very raspy for her. Should I be worried if there are really no other symptoms than this? Can a hen...
As an end to this, Penelope got another Epsom salt soak yesterday and looked very very poorly in the morning. I really thought i was going to lose her. Then she got in the laying box and pushed out a shell-less egg! after she got rid of that, she bounded outside to expel a giant mass of...
Wow! That is a chicken! Mine wasn't THAT impressive but she was really good and definitely deserves a break. she's not herself and seems to be straining a bit. she's been in and out of the laying box a bunch today, but still no egg. i think this might be her issue. I guess she will get...
Thanks seminolewind. I think i will get some of that and start her on that if I don't see some drastic improvement in the next day or two. She is eating a little and I have definitely thought about a laying problem. She has always been my best layer but hasn't laid for almost four days now so...
