    which is better???

I don't have any experience with McMurray hatchery. Regarding breeds of hens, I'd go with the white rocks, as rocks have an even temperament . Good luck with your decision!

    "Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

New, or re-new to this thread. Kunrtygurl, my wife & I were discussing Thanksgiving plans yesterday, and I said I wanted to try a goose this year! Also, I took a look at your webpage and would like to talk with you about processing different birds. Scott LeJeune

    breeding Cream Legbars from scratch

A Barred Holland would probably work best as his egg color gene is white, which wouldn't mess up the Blue gene! A California Grey Roo might work too.

    Getting my Pullets to LAY!

Having an automatic light come on early in the am (5am) is a great way to stimulate the girls hormones into production. I also use ceramic eggs rather than golf balls or plastic Easter eggs. They are heavier and don't pop open under their weight .

    HELP! CHICKENS EATING EGGS

I think it happens just by accident for many. When some hens lay, they like to roll their egg underneath them and move it about. IT they have sharp beeks and break the shell, they eat the goo. Also, if nestingboxes are crowded, they can accidently break an egg. I have had a1 or 2 do...

Silver Phoenix or Silver Laced Wyandotte?

Oh yes they do appear to be phoenix. My phoenix were very gentle and the hens allowed us to handle them. Roos were not mean but not friendly enough to eat out of our hands.

Silver Phoenix or Silver Laced Wyandotte?

It appears to me that the pics are labeled backwards. . . The second set is of the Phoenix chicks and the first set is of the wyndottes. For the Phoenix it looks like 1 of them is male. The dots don't look silver maybe blue laced red????? And it is difficult to tell this woung, but roos get...

    Chickies cured my depression

I also share a therapeutic bond with my two youngsters- like you do with yours :o) Only problem is I have to make sure I don't go toooo overboard with the hatching! There are so many different breeds and not enough time/space/money. . . .

    Chickies cured my depression

I'm glad to know that you are feeling better. It is definitely NOT silly to learn that having chickens has helped improve your mood. I am a psychologist for a school system and have a private psychotherapy practice. . . . Many other animals have been used therapeutically- dogs, cats, horses...

    Baby chick not hatching? helpppp!!

I would (try to) refrain from helping. Put a jar lid of water in the bottom of the incubator to increase the humidity. . . and try to refrain from opening. . . bringing the humidity higher and keeping it steady should help. Good luck. . and do keep us posted.
