I don't know how large your set-up is, but I found DE (diatomaceous earth) to be a really big help around containers and on the floor. Unfortunately, you can't put it in with the mealworms.
However, it is totally non toxic, but very fine, so you have to be careful about breathing it in. I tried...
Hi,
I bought a shipping container to house my mealworms.
To my horror, they started looking sick and dying.
Turns out they had mould mite, diagnosed by an entomologist.
She said the mite would have come in with my bran substate, however I've figured out since that they were already in the...
Hi,
Regarding the control of grain pests, would you have a site reference, especially concerning the heating of substrate (50-55deg.for 15 mins)?
I have had an unbelievable amount of mould seeking mites breeding in a shipping container for my mealworms...devastating.
The impression I got from an...

Hi all,
I would like to master the use of a sieve, (containing the beetles),in order to have a consistent worm size.
Could anyone advise me as to how often the sieve is moved to a new box and the use of a water source (carrot) for the beetle?
If the beetles lay eggs on the carrot, could they...

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how to pick the difference in appearance of the worms prior to molting as opposed to pupating?
Anything "turning", like very still, forming a "C" shape, skin a lighter colour, etc, I was putting into a tray expecting to eventually see pupae, then beetles...
