Anyone ever used topical selamectin/ Revolution for scaly leg mites?

I just came across this post. Thank you for "experimenting" with this as I had considered trying it on my birds too. You didn't have any problems after applying it right? Did you have a dog or a cat dose vial that you used?

HELP! Silkie ate about 10 flies covered in permethrin bug spray!

Thanks so much for your replies. I'm a little overprotective of this one! I gave her the salt mixture and she just dust bathed and ate corn and seems normal.

HELP! Silkie ate about 10 flies covered in permethrin bug spray!

Ok, I just found the LD50 on Permethrin in birds, and it is quite high: "The oral LD50 for the permethrin formulation, Pramex is >9,900 mg/kg in mallard ducks, in pheasants is >13,500 mg/kg, and >15,500 mg/kg in Japanese quail" so I'm not as worried at this point. Long term experiments with...

HELP! Silkie ate about 10 flies covered in permethrin bug spray!

Help! One of my silkies raced over after I sprayed a bunch of cluster flies with permethrin bug spray and ate them! I syringed some water into her and tried to make her vomit, but nothing came up. Now she is going over to lay an egg so not very active. I made a plate of veggies for her to...

    silkie leg question UPDATED

Have you checked them for scaly leg mites? If they have an advanced case, they look like that before it gets worse. Silkies are apparently prone to getting these mites because of their feathered feet. Treatable with Ivermectin. Look at the scales on her feet and see if they are raised or...

    Button Quail and Chickens together?

Another quick question. I have read a lot about the "boink" factor with these little guys and how they can seriously injure their heads from doing this when startled. Do you think they will be too frightened to be on the same level with chickens even though separated by wire? I don't want...

    Button Quail and Chickens together?

Many thanks for all your helpful replies. I will build them an enclosure within the aviary to keep them safe. I do worry about the chicken thinking they might be tasty and some of the pigeons can be a little aggressive too. I have a lot of ground birds (one wingers, etc.) so it is the perfect...

    Button Quail and Chickens together?

Hello, I recently adopted 2 buttons from a school hatching project gone bad. They are my first buttons. I have 9 chickens and one silkie hen lives in my dirt floor aviary with the pigeons (her choice!). Is it possible for these buttons to cohabitate in the same aviary with the one silkie...

    Silent crowing Orpington

It sounds like this little chick might be open mouth breathing, the stress of the hawk attack on his mate may have compromised her. Is she doing ok otherwise, eating, drinking, etc? I suggest this only because a dog once scared one of mine (didn't injure it) but this chicken open mouth...

    Any ideas on breed?

Hi everyone! I'm brand new here and care for a small flock of hens. I recently adopted a couple of young chickens (8-12 weeks?) from a high school lab project that was cancelled as soon as the teacher realized he had to find homes for two dozen day olds. They were purchased as day old...
