Her crop felt pretty normal, not swollen or anything like that.
I’m not sure when she laid an egg last. She has laid weird eggs before though, they would come out without a shell, and later the shell would follow. I felt around her abdomen and checked her vent for a problem like this, but...
Thank you for the advice/information, but sadly, I found her dead this morning. Last night, I gave her lots of different things to drink (plain water, ACV, electrolytes, & VetRX, just a few sips of each) and tilted her head to help her swallow. I dipped her beak in banana bits, but she couldn’t...
My hen has been acting very strange, something is definitely wrong with her. She's a red-sex-link and a little over 4 years old. Yesterday, I noticed her laying down in the coop away from the others. I picked her up and tried setting her on a low fence, and she could barely stay on it and was...
Thanks for the reply. I haven't really thought too much about selling hatching eggs, but do you know how much they can sell for compared to an already hatched Ayam Cemani?
Hello, I've been thinking about breeding and selling Ayam Cemani chickens. Does anyone know if this breed is still highly sought after? And if so, do you think people would be willing pay good money for them as well as travel a fair distance to pick them up? Thanks!
To update, the hen actually seems to be doing alright. She's still acting very normal and doesn't appear to be suffering. I continue to feel her abdomen frequently, and it still feels a bit firm and round, so I'm not sure what that means. I'm just grateful she's still alive and hopefully healthy.
Thanks for the reply! Her lower belly feels firm, but not completely hard. She is 3 years old, and her tail is still up, but not carried super high. I watched a video on how to treat a hen with Egg Yolk Peritonitis, and a pill-like substance was used to treat a hen. It's called Calf Scour Bolus...
Hello, I have a hen (Jules) who is beginning to display a concerning symptom I've seen before in my flock. Her abdomen area feels swollen, and I've been wondering if she could have Egg Yolk Peritonitis or something else like Ascites. Any advice and information would be helpful, thanks!
Thanks for the link! It would probably be a good idea to buy some Tylosin powder just in case something like this happens again. I gave both of the hens some VetRx which is for respiratory uses, and then I gave them some thyme. Since then, they look pretty good! I don't remember seeing any...
Good news, I checked on the hens' eyes today, and the swellings appear to have lessened, so hopefully whatever was going on with them is going away or is gone. :)
