We got some good press today through the Greenfield Daily Reporter. They covered our City Council meeting and it has so far resulted in several more "likes" and comments on our facebook page...
On the way home from getting out chicks a month ago, "dumpling" had a loud and constant voice. she has been fine ever since until tonight. She will not stop chirping very loudly unless she is held. Even then she starts to settle and then "startles" and peeps loudly for no apparent reason again...
I forgot to say the area does seem to be tender because when I tried to examine it she tried to get her head away but she isn't bothered by me looking at the opposite side of her head that still has the fuzz on it. Her body is very feathered.
Dumpling is one of our six new chickens (our first) and today we noticed a spot on her head about the size of a nickel that was pink and balding. It is under the "ear". She and the other chickens are all acting fine. We haven't seen any of them picking (pecking) in a rough or attacking manner...
Don't tell the others...but I have a favorite chicken.
This is Buttermilk. She is very relaxed. When I open the brooder she flies out to me and snuggles. She is bigger than this now and has most of her feathers it looks like. I'm counting on her being a "her". :)
