We have a batch of 4 week old pullets and another 6 just few day old chicks. Can we combine them? If so, how?
I've introduced 6 weeks old pullets to my older flock successfully each year, but I've never had to batch of chicks to try to integrate. Any pointers?
Thanks!
I do not clean my eggs after Gathering them. I simply keep them in cardboard cartons on the kitchen counter until ready to use them.
Today, when I went to use some eggs, there was mold growing on two or three of them.
Does anyone have an idea as to why this would be and how I could prevent it...
If you can add a carrier to dilute the oil, you can give it to your girls.
I'd be more concerned about the oil eating through the synthetics of the waterer though.
I use Oregano with my girls, but I probably wouldn't give it to young chicks simple because there's no way of knowing how much they consume. And if you're using a pure Oregano oil (which of course I hope you are for the sake of pure health), it is too HOT to give undiluted with a carrier oil...
Thanks for sharing, and I apologize for not seeing this earlier!
I hope Red is well!
I just real quick wanted to touch on the topic of using Tea Tree with animals, esp cats....
If you are using YLEO, then using Tea Tree is fine for our feline friends. Due to their size, however, we do need...
I have experienced great results using DE. Some question its safety, but my feeling is that if we'll use synthetic toxins without hesitation, why not a natural substance. While it may carry a risk (as everything does), the benefits outweigh those that come with poisons, imho.
The biggest...
Purification, Thieves, Clove, Oregano, Peppermint, and Lavender oils are all options I'd consider.
Personally, we blend 10 drops each Purification, Thieves, Lavender, and Peppermint in a 16oz spray bottle with 1 Tbsp of witch hazel and the rest water for spraying our coop/barn 1x/month.
I...
That's a tough one.
Helichrysum is an excellent oil for such, but it's a very expensive oil.
Have you considered Ylang Ylang or even just Lavender? Sometimes some of the more commonplace oils do the trick.
Good luck!
Would you mind suggesting amounts and ratios of the Tea Tree shampoo and vinegar you used to bathe your chickens?
Also, did you scrub or just soak your girls? Pluck the "q-tips" or leave them?
Thanks so much!
Using metal is fine.
When I bathe my girls, I set them in the kitchen sink. This is easier on my back, and I can control the water temp easier. I simply use a washcloth to wipe down where needed. The kicker is keeping them in the water 15-20 minutes.
Some chickens like being placed in the...
Yes, we have seen overwhelmingly positive results from using pure therapeutic grade Oregano oil. Because these oils are so concentrated, a little goes a long way.
Personally, we use 1-2 drops per our 1.5 gallon waterers mixed with a tablespoon of ACV and a capful of olive oil.
Depending on...
Young Living is the only brand our family uses for we humans and our animals as it is the only therapeutic grade company that can stand behind its products with Seed to Seal. I won't use anything else - our health depends on it.
I put a drop of Oregano in each of the 1 gallon waterers that our hens use whenever any symptoms of illness arise. I do add a touch (I don't measure, but it's probably equivalent to 2-3 drops) of olive oil, and a bit of raw, organic apple cider vinegar to the water as well.
I have not noticed...
I apologize for not responding to your post earlier. I don't understand it, but I only just now received notification of your post.
How is your hen? I pray she's well. Whenever my hens first display the same symptoms, I first give them a 15-20 minute bath in the kitchen sink with 1/4 Epsom...
