Bantam pullet not drinking, barely eating...

Update: After about a week of this, she gradually began to sip a little water, nibble a little pellet feed, and after a couple more days we were back to essentially normal. Still keeping an eye on her, but as some suggested, maybe she was just "under the weather" or moping about shedding her...

Bantam pullet not drinking, barely eating...

As previously mentioned, only she has access to this waterer, which has marks on the side... and the level of water stays exactly the same... alas!

Bantam pullet not drinking, barely eating...

Thanks for the replies, folks! The last couple of days, I was dealing with another pet medical issue, as well as having a hopefully-not-broken toe myself. Sheesh! We are still kind of in a holding pattern with this. She will eat some wet pellets or oat/corn/fish porridge, but not the amount of...

Bantam pullet not drinking, barely eating...

Thanks for the reply, keeperofmunchkins! Her comb is a normal light red color, and I'd be very surprised if she were broody. Each of these gals, as they matured, laid eggs for about 6 weeks, then turned into determined broodies for about a month, with all the classic symptoms... except they did...

Bantam pullet not drinking, barely eating...

Hi! Thanks to any who take the time to read this and try to help! I have 3 Serama pullets, about 8 months old, that I got in August. The chicken in question, "Broody Mama", is the biggest, tipping the scales at just about a pound. She can see/hear but not touch the others due to previous...

What happened to real farmers markets?

New Haven, Connecticut has such a thriving Farmers Market scene, that there are several markets around the city during the growing season, and even a Winter Market, mostly animal products of course. You can get your $6 soaps and $5 pastries, but fresh corn is still two for a dollar. Local pork...

First chicks by mail - any advice?

Caution: feather dusters look really cute, but can entangle chicks. (Sorry to be all "The Internet sez: everything will kill you!!!", but...) As others have noted elsewhere , there are numerous tearful posts by new chicken owners who have woken up to find their chicks strangled in the long...

    Hello from Connecticut!

Thanks for the advice Drumstick Diva! Alas, laws are already on the books prohibiting chickens on less than 3 acres. :-P I think you can pay a fee and apply to the town to MAYBE get a special exception, but that might be asking for trouble - I think I'll try to just stay under the radar...

    my pet chicken reviews

Bump... Has anyone ordered from MyPetChicken recently? How did it go? I don't know what other option we have, those of us who want a small flock of several different interesting breeds? Craigslist sounds way too iffy, major hatcheries want you to order 5-10 of each breed, often straight-run, and...

OK to leave coop door open into predator-proofed run?

Thanks for the feedback, everybody! So cold drafts from the pop door shouldn't be a problem, if the coop has proper (not too much/ not too little) ventilation? Pop door may need to be on the west side though, and prevailing winds in winter are from the north and north west (not true west).

    Silkie thread!

Beautiful birds, silkiecuddles! Forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place (I just joined BYC) - but I had a question for "The Silkie Thread": In the "Things I wish I knew..." thread, people mentioned, generically, the idea that there were some breeds of chickens that really should not be...

OK to leave coop door open into predator-proofed run?

Hi there! I am still in the planning stages of chicken-keeping - want to make sure I know mostly what I'm doing before any peeps arrive! My question is this: Will chickens reliably put themselves to bed around sunset, from their enclosed run, into the coop? I work afternoon into evening, so I...
