I'm having a break from rexcuing more ex batts, heartbreaking to lose them after 12/18mths, i do miss how friendly & loving they were. I have added two cream legbar chicks to my flock & they're lunatics, they do make me chuckle with their antics.

    Hello i'm a newbie

Your so lucky you can have 'roos', i hatched one (light sussex) & had to rehome him, luckily to a local stud farm. Where i live we are not allowed to keep cockerels :(

    Hello i'm a newbie

Yes some of mine had crooked beaks too, breaks your heart how cruel egg farming can be. But now i have hens from a breeder & i have a broody hen than loves hatching chicks all the time, she has 2 cream legbar chicks at the moment & they are so funny & cute.

    Hello i'm a newbie

Before & after pics of my girls Babs. She was so scared of everything at first & bullied by the other hens, but then she became the friendliest, sweetest girl.

    Hello i'm a newbie

I went with my 2 daughters to get ours, one of them had hardly any feathers, she was practically oven ready, we called her Babs & she grew the most beautiful feathers, they all seemed to blossom & look amazing just before they died. I will get some more but i just need to give my heart a rest...

    Hello i'm a newbie

Yes they really are the friendliest birds, all mine have died now but i do miss them. It's hard when they die so young, battery farming is really cruel.

    Hello i'm a newbie

Hi Abriana & thank you. I got my battery hens through the British hen welfare trust, the uk is pretty big on rescuing ex batts at the moment so there is quite a surge in people keeping backyard flocks. Some people will go to farms where they know battery hens are kept & ask to buy them, the...
