    question on feeding quail chicks.....

What are you feeding them? I don't have to grind at all because I feed a game bird starter crumble. So depending on what you are feeding my answer could lead you astray. Brad

I'm a hick because I use rabbit hutches with wire bottoms guys :)

Being a hick has never bothered me, but to be honest with you, until now I didn't know it was a bad thing. Note to self --- start getting out more! Have over 300 birds on wire. My birds are raised to be processed for the table. Brad

Maybe quail would fill the void.

What quail is good for meat and eggs? (I think I know the answer to this one but just checking) I would suggest a jumbo variety of coturnix, although wild types also excel at meat and eggs they just mature slower. What sort of living quarters do they need? Depending on the number anything...

    MONARC23/SHELLEYD2008, Quail advice, please.

Quote: A quail will actually put on fat. As a quail ages, like with me, instead of getting meatier after their metabolism slows all they do is put on is fat. Like broiler, they can put on fat internally also which could cause heart failure. My suggestion would be to harvest them at the 10 -...

    Little eggs Jumbo birds?

Have you hatched any of your own eggs? One of the things I choose as hatching eggs is a size uniformity. As a matter of fact, my next breeder cull will include that trait. I was fortunate to start with pretty good breeding stock, rather than from eggs. This is from my own results and...

    Happy Easter

When she told me she was going to dye them, I never imagined they would turn out like they did. We've been real lucky with egg numbers, though I've got over 80 breeding hens. She also dyed some duck eggs that turned out beautiful, but just the solid color of the dye. I'm not a crafty type of...

    DIY quail battery cages

Quote: Just noticed you're from TN, too--hey neighbor! Thanks for the information. I'll put a 50w on them and leave it for 14 hours. We'll see if that jump starts anything. If by chance I had 6 roos, would they all live peacefully together in a 3x2x3 cage? I hope I don't have all...

    DIY quail battery cages

Quote: The additional lighting works for my birds. I got 71 eggs today. I also, feed a breeder/flight conditioner feed to all my breeders. Sorry Monarc and Chickadeedle, I'm sure your egg count will improve with the spring. Brad

    Met my first Quail

It's a bummer why you had to meet your son's teacher, but I'm glad you got to meet the quail. They are egg and meat machines. Good Luck, Brad

just processed my first quail I have a few questions

Quote: Clipping the wings, skinning and splitting them along the back for clean-out is my personal preferance. This method suits my deep frying and grilling habits of preparing them for the table. So I would say it would be up to the cook and the recipe to decide if to clip the wings and to...
