    We are watching her so closely for infection. We clean the wound a couple times a day with warm salt water and keep it lotioned with bacitracin ointment. We did have her outside in her box this morning but one of the flock attacked her so she's back in the house just inside the screen door...

    Thank you both for the information. Daphne seems like she's committed to surviving. She's eating, drinking and trying to get around. I'm such a nervous Mommy though. Her wound is still so fresh and I worry about it getting infected. ~Lisa & Ty

    Brahma toes?

    We have only been chicken Mama & Papa for about a year now and we have 2 dark brahmas in our flock. Their outer toes are as you described, short...and ours are missing the nail. But our girls are a year old and it's never slowed them down or affected their behavior as far as we can tell.

    I have laughed so hard reading this thread! We said we'd start with 3 last year. Came home with 7. 2 passed away so we were down to 5. Chicken Papa decided we needed more this spring...again just 3. But chicken son wanted more so we came home with 4 in the box. The biggest suprise of all...
