Well, people say they are good for down to 40°F because they are about a pound in weight.
A heat lamp they can get under in a place free from drafts does wonders.
I believe I am the only one around here with seramas.
Here's some of them:
I'll be there with some button quail.
I have recently hatched some African Harlequin quail and have coturnix quail, seramas, and bantam turkens.
PM me if anyone wants certain button quail colours.
Ahhh, I don't have my doctorate in poop but I am working on it.
After growing up with two horses and pets and working zoos I have a BS is poop
from years and tonnage.
Perhaps the shade of green tells all, I may study this.
heh heh heh
I didn't notice green poop from the buttons, the first set...
Ok, that is what I was thinking.
I see a lot of people keeping them in trios in smaller spaces.
The 2'x6' or 3'6' I can do easily, maybe two levels for two sets of birds.
Do not need more cots than that, really.
Think one set of 7/8 birds is all i really need to make the wife happy with eggs but...
I hope to avoid serious inbreeding, but I am looking at only having a few serama and bantam turkens here.
Good to know the savachick is good, those babies are looking good after thinking I was going to lose one for sure!
Now the naked neck bantams have two hatched out, weighing them also.
First...
The cots are now doing well with medicated food and SavAChick water (is that like vitasol?)
Started weighing them and they are gaining weight every day and stopped sleeping so much.
Saw the weakest one pigging out a couple of days ago and poop turn brown so I think they are well now and act...
Ok, so what size cage are y'all using for 7-8 birds?
I need to make some pens, but won't have a lot of coturnix quail.
I hear about breeding them in trios so this is a surprise to me but if it works I'll do it.
Would 2'x4' be big enough or would I need larger cages for 8 birds?
Any problems with...
I agree, wasn't meaning to make trouble.
The internut is a crazy place.....
Have you ever had any trouble pairing up button quail?
The other pairs get along well except for the one male.
He is all white, and I often find white birds are more trouble.
Newest hatch has an all white, hope it is a...
I thought that was true for pretty much all animals that are thought to "mate for life".
One dies, they may accept another mate.
I now have 16 BQ, the last 8 are only 3 weeks old now, the other 7 weeks old.
I have one trio (because they get along?) and one male all alone because he was picked on...
Humidity is all about surface area.
Increase the area of water to evaporate.
Some people use sponges but I prefer to just have more water on the floor.
What incubator are you using?
Yet another fine article that has me thinking about redesigning my future quail pens.
I am in the process of building a 4 compartment, 20' by 14' chicken pen so I can keep 4 types.
My needs for coturnix quail is small, yet, as another posters says, he thought so too and is up to his butt in...
