King Quail Multiplication

I'm not aware of any species that won't replace it's mate but people tend to really dissect what I say on here so I stick to posting only things I can swear by.

I agree, wasn't meaning to make trouble.
The internut is a crazy place.....

Have you ever had any trouble pairing up button quail?
The other pairs get along well except for the one male.
He is all white, and I often find white birds are more trouble.
Newest hatch has an all white, hope it is a female!!!
I hatched out 2 cots from 11 eggs given to me, two of those literally exploded in the bator after a few day so I suspect there were eggs issues.
First cot was weak and had green poop, fed it medicated gamebird crumble and after the other one joined it it got better.
Both doing well now, but those birds were so lazy they'd sleep in the food dish and just wake up and lift their head to eat!
They run around fine when I bother them and act normal, but I laugh at how LAZZZYYYY they are!!!!

You should hit those little lazy cots with some vitamins or put a little sugar in their water just in case they are behind at all. I use vitasol because it's on the shelf at most pet stores but there are a lot of them out there. I give it to all my chicks right out the gate. You just put it in the water.

I've had plenty of trouble pairing up buttons lol. What I usually do with a pair that is giving me problems is put them side by side in little finch cages and eventually you'll see the male bringing stuff to her or see them laying side x side at the wire.

I tend to agree that the white birds are more problematic. They seem to be weaker birds in my experience but the whites I used to have were from some pretty poor stock as well.

The cots are now doing well with medicated food and SavAChick water (is that like vitasol?)
Started weighing them and they are gaining weight every day and stopped sleeping so much.
Saw the weakest one pigging out a couple of days ago and poop turn brown so I think they are well now and act normal.
I am also hatching bantam turkens from the same place and it too seems a bit weak so I think they had a high bacterial load.
Guess I will be nursing some weak birds along out of necessity.

Interesting, glad to know others observe the same issues with white birds though physically these white seem ok.
I may have to do the finch cage thing with these quail but hope not.
They really hate being alone.

I've purchased white hens before that were sterile also. Never encountered a completely sterile hen of any species before that, they could have just been ridiculously inbred though too.

Savachick is a good product, probably better than vitasol for chick use.

I hope to avoid serious inbreeding, but I am looking at only having a few serama and bantam turkens here.
Good to know the savachick is good, those babies are looking good after thinking I was going to lose one for sure!
Now the naked neck bantams have two hatched out, weighing them also.
First one lost 2 grams (abdomen egg yolk use?) but put on a gram.
Even though I showed it the water a few times, this morning when I did it kept drinking like it was very thirsty.
Guess I wasn't too smart on my first day of life too.....

Green first poops lead me to believe bacterial infection.
Could be other issues but I think bacterial.
What do you think it may be?

The green first poop is pretty normal for quail chicks, I couldn't for sure for chickens. I'd guess it is from the yolk but I don't know. There are also a lot of shades of green

Ahhh, I don't have my doctorate in poop but I am working on it.
After growing up with two horses and pets and working zoos I have a BS is poop
from years and tonnage.
Perhaps the shade of green tells all, I may study this.
heh heh heh
I didn't notice green poop from the buttons, the first set were born 6/2 and I found eggs today!
Both cots and all three chickens that hatched this week are now doing well.
The cots are putting on weight fast.
All the birds seemed off at first this week, except for one chick.
