Hi Everyone,
It's been a while since I posted so I thought I'd jump on here.
Has anyone in the Wichita area put their chicks outside yet, in the coop? Do I still need a heat lamp in the coop to help keep them warm? (well at least when the coop is ready that is, lol) I only have a couple that...
:)Wow, great topic, I've been wondering about this myself!
I have no idea how old mine are, they're about 4 wks to 6 wks, when I finish this bag of feed I should switch them to.......? Not sure I'm understanding all the different feed stuff. Can't they just make one and be done with it...
Nope, unfortunately, the weather people got it right This weather BITES it's cold, wet, and slippery.
Haha on getting more chicks, dh say NOPE!! It actually only took him 1/2 hr to make it. The wood on the sides is gonna be used to make their nesting boxes, so it'll come down. But, with...
OOOO thanks for the advice. I'll have hubby work on that when he gets home from work! The sides are 31" high and with me clipping their wings I didn't think they'd be able to jump out, crap, am I wrong?
Didn't know where to post this so I'll just do it here, LOL
My hubby made a new brooder last night for out 10 chicks and I wanted to brag about it.
The thing is HUGE. He had some "weird" wood hanging out in his workshop and an old closet door so he put them together and tada we have a new...
My 2 cents worth.
I have pine shaving stuff in my brooder for my 10 chicks, they love it. They roll around it and 1 chick even tries to bury him/herself in it, LOL. I'm gonna use the same stuff in their nesting boxes when I get around to moving them outside.
That really is a cute coop, but can you stand in it? Is that even as issue for you? I know when we finally renovate our wood shed,(lol, with this weather it's gonna be awhile) I know I wanted to be able to stand up inside it to clean it out, change bedding and such things like that.
I'm with all of you, THIS WEATHER IS TERRIBLE!!!!!! I hate winter to begin with but this year it's been downright awful!!! I say lets get ahold of Mother Nature and beat her senseless, LOL.
Good thing my chickees are so darn cute and loved, hubby won't mind leaving them in the house longer...
Does anyone know what kind of chicks I bought? I have no idea. And, if possible, could you guess if they are hens or roos?
Thanks so much for the help.

Okay, I'm a newbie to chickens and this website so bare with my "dumb" questions please
How do you know you have a broody hen? Do the females need to mate with a rooster for baby chicks? Do the hens need anything special? If there's a spot on the website will all this info, can someone...
I have chicks that range in age from 1.5 weeks to about 3 weeks, this is my first time, and I fed them crickets and meal worms yesterday. WHAT A BLAST. After they figured out what to do with them, it was a riot. The treats were gone within minutes, I loved watching them run around their...
Ok I have a question for all you Kansas chick mommas,
When do you put your chicks out in the "big" coop if you live in the Wichita area. I have 3 chicks that are about 2 wks old and 2 that look to be 4 weeks and the other 3 maybe 3 weeks old.
I've read they can go out when they have feathers...
Welcome, Liz! I'm in Wichita! I've seen people here from Ottawa, Lawrence, Salina, Manhattan. Where are you?
I'm in Clearwater, well actually 7 miles north of Clearwater and 5 miles South of Goddard.
