I just purchased seven chicks yesterday and I was wondering if I could give the chicks treats, if so what is safe for them and what is bad for them, or should I just wait till they are older, my guess is that they are about a week old.

After about two weeks, I like to give them mealworms.

Other good choices are crickets, yogurt, and scrambled or hard boiled eggs. (with grit) There may be more, too, and I'm excited to hear other people's thoughts. Always wanted to hear ideas on some good, safe treats for such little'uns. Right now my current chicks are a month old and can eat just about anything (they're trying grass and weeds today for the first time and LOVE em.) But I have new chicks due to hatch in 2 days, then more in 4 days, and even more in 6 days!!

So I'll be making TRIPLE batches of treats!

I have chicks that range in age from 1.5 weeks to about 3 weeks, this is my first time, and I fed them crickets and meal worms yesterday. WHAT A BLAST. After they figured out what to do with them, it was a riot. The treats were gone within minutes, I loved watching them run around their brooders chasing these things. I can't wait to do it again and this time I'll put them on my living room floor and watch the real fun!!!

If you give them treats do you need to also supply grit? If so, should you mix the grit into the food or offer it separately?

I hadn't planned on getting chicks - it just kinda happened.
