Treats for 25 day old chicks

One "treat" that you never have to worry about feeding is their regular feed with a bit of water mixed in to make it a mash. I make mine about the consistency of cookie dough. When the chicks are little, I'll put a bit in the palm of my hand. Eventually, one of them will be brave enough to peck at it.

"Hey, everybody! Look what I found! It's really neat food!" nom nom nom nom.

It's also a great way to use up the bits that end up at the bottom of the bowl, that the birds don't seem to want to eat.

Mash snack is still my chickens' favorite "treat." And they're 2-5 years old.
I will try this for sure thanks!

When they're older, say a couple of months or so, I start occasionally mixing "extras" into their mash snack. Some possibilities:
Yogurt
Whey from making yogurt (instead of water)
Cooked squash
The guts (stringy bits and/or seeds) of squash, melons, cucumbers

In really hot weather, I'll sprinkle a bit of an electrolyte packet on the mash, and make it a little more watery than usual. I don't do that every day, but our really hot spells don't usually last too long.

I also sing the "Chickie Snack" song when I bring this to them. This part is optional, but it's part of our routine. :)
