Hi Drumstick Diva,
I too am elderly and having to make a chicken decision. I’ve been In a chicken program for a few years. But for the price I could buy my own coop and 3 hens.
I have no help, And live where winters can be windy and harsh, although I could hire someone to muck them out a few...
Are you describing a tube rather than a half circle tunnel? Seems a tube would be so easy- just make it whatever height and length you want given the size fencing you buy. Any ideas on this appreciated.
He is beautiful! Is the blue color similar to a Weimaraner’s color?
I ran into a man with a Dobe at PetSmart the other day. She was gorgeous and had the personality of a goofy Lab. I bet you see some sad things as a rescue lady. There is a lady in our town who helps homeless persons with food...
I found it online when I entered the terms ‘Chicken rental’. BTW Rent the Chicken also is on the lookout for persons who want to join and become a person who rents out their own chickens.

Rent the Chicken is pretty much nationwide. I live in Indiana and my super knowledgeable chicken lady lives only about 20 minutes away. (Also she said she’d watch my hens at her place if I took an extended summer trip.) There are other rental groups popping up I see online. I have not checked...

Thanks! If I own my own coop, I can keep renting hens-only every spring. Their standard package includes a coop which is super safe and nice looking, but it would save me in the long run to own my own.
BTW does your name ‘Dobie’ refer to Dobermans? My parents raised Dobes.
I’m new here, but I’ve seen your site occasionally. I’m getting older now, but when I was a young woman I had chickens for awhile. They were free range, and I taught my kids to do the float test as they searched for the hens hidey holes in the woods. We had no predators bother us except for...
