Sorry about your losses. I had an Australorp last summer, and the other hen was an Australorp/Leghorn cross, Boy was she bossy! I heard Australorps suffer in the heat, so the Leghorn/Austro mix hen must have been trying to help the other one stay cool by pulling her back feathers out!Hello and Welcome to BYC!

Rent the Chicken is pretty much nationwide. I live in Indiana and my super knowledgeable chicken lady lives only about 20 minutes away. (Also she said she’d watch my hens at her place if I took an extended summer trip.) There are other rental groups popping up I see online. I have not checked them out, as I feel pretty loyal to Rent the Chicken. (BTW the rental price includes feed for 6 months, wood shavings, oyster shell, chubby mealworms, and hanging feeders and waterers) But still the price is a consideration.Welcome to Backyard Chickens @LizzyRose great to have you join us curious what state are you in that the rental is happening
Wow! Good for your husband! I’ve heard of ‘chicken math’, do you have to watch out for ‘horse math’? LOL. My former daughter in law who still remains a close friend absolutely has to have a horse. She doesn’t have a lot of money so she exchanges chores with various barns to earn her horse’s keep. She plays a series of some kind of ‘games’ to challenge her horse’s minds. She has a rescue horse that is now absolutely beautiful. The horse watches her closely when she shows up as he loves the ‘games’ they play together. One horse she had was so gentle it was able to be involved in a program for autistic kids. I’ll have to tell her there is such a thing as horse rental. Have a great evening.Welcome to our FUNomenal community!![]()
I have never heard about chicken rental programs....! That’s pretty neat! I used to lease a horse before my husband built me a barn and then purchased our own horse/s.
Best wishes and have lots of fun!![]()
I found it online when I entered the terms ‘Chicken rental’. BTW Rent the Chicken also is on the lookout for persons who want to join and become a person who rents out their own chickens.Nice to meet you! The chicken renting sounds intriguing.
He is beautiful! Is the blue color similar to a Weimaraner’s color?Yes it does! The boy in my avatar is my current one. He is blue and his name is Ben.
I've been rescuing Dobermans since 1996.
