We are nearing the end of day 20 with the cardboard box incubator and this is the first arrival. I love watching that first new chick, struggling through all the eggs, pecking at them as if to say "hey...you in there, come on out and play"...
I am on my 2nd hatch ever, still pretty new to this. My incubator is a converted cardboard box...lol....the humidity inside stays between 48-52% during the entire incubation period and I've not had any trouble yet.
The cardboard box incubator has worked again. We're nearing the end of day 20 and this is the first arrival, there are 2 more pipped. I will post more later this evening, after Survivor.
Day 20 for me starts today at 6pm. I am glad I added the glass to the top of the box, it is way easier to see through than the plastic was. Nothing happening yet, they'll wait until after I go to sleep tonight.

WOW, I would love to see pictures of your Box incubator! What are you using for a thermostat? I am planning to make a styrofoam incubator/hatcher so that I can keep my turners turnjn' and my bators batin' and not have to stop for that pesky lockdown
Not sure if the pic came...
Tomorrow is lock down day for my 2nd batch in the cardboard box incubator, which is working better than I expected for just being a box. The night light bulbs keep the temps. very stable and the best part is that it didn't cost me a dime...lol. There are 19 eggs in there and I have seen some...
Thanks for all the info on my newly hatched chicks, sorry I called them "mutts" but I am a dog lover and that is kind of a term of endearment to me . You were all correct about the different colors, there are some interesting mixes...lol. Batch #2 is on day 10, candled them the other night...
Since I am new at this and most of the posters here seem to have alot of experience, I have a couple questions. Of the 10 chickies hatched, 2 are from the blue eggs. My rooster is a RIR, the blue eggs come from my Aracauna hens, are these chicks just mutt chicks or do they have a...
I have to say I am happy with my first foray into hatching eggs. I rigged up a small cardboard box incubator and collected 18 eggs from my hens. Of the 18, 13 turned out to be fertile and I ended up with 10 healthy chicks out of that 13 eggs. I am on day 7 of the next batch, have 25 eggs in...
I guess I am joining the party, I have 13 eggs in my cardboard box incubator that are due to hatch on Feb.8th. This is a first time thing, I started with 18 eggs from my own hens, I candled them at 12 days and there was one cracked shell and 4 that were not fertile. The blue eggs are hard to...
I purchased what I was told were 3 aracauna(sp) and 1 black sex link pullets last summer but the black sex link has turned out to be a rooster. Now that he is mature, I am not even sure he is a sex link. He looks like the RIR pictures that I see, he is gorgeous and has no barring at all. Do ALL...
