From reading all the replies it looks like it could be one of many predators. I have not lost chickens except the day after my LGD passed away, but in our area it seems to be raccoon's that kill this way.
IYou could also look for an adult LGD that is already okay around chickens - that's what we had to do because we could not wait until a puppy was full grown. I found an adult LGD. He wasn't introduced to chickens prior to our situation but after a little work he is fine now. (it took about a...
Our Great Pyrenees never leaves our property - it is unfenced. He does bark, but only when there is something to bark at. He is also great with our chickens. He wasn't when we first brought him home, but it did not take long to teach him to leave them alone. He was 1 yr old we we got him. We...
Day old chicks should be kept at 95 degrees and each week go down 5 degress until you hit 75 degrees. That is why they are staying under the heat source, they are cold.
I think sometimes it can be the particular breed of the rooster. I have Salmon Faverolle roo's and Cochin roo's that are very docile but both of my Blue Andalusion roos went in the dinner pot because of their extreme aggression.
I got my first batch of Blue Andalusians about 8 months ago. I started with 15 1 day old chicks (straight run). I didn't know what I had (boys/girls) for a couple of months. I ended up with 7 roos and 8 pullets.
I kept the 2 best looking roosters and all the pullets. I handled them as much as...
Thanks everyone for your input - I have to agree - it's not worth taking a chance that he will pass his aggressiveness on to his babies. He is bound for the dinner pot. What a shame, he is such a beautiful rooster. I was just wondering if this was a common trait of Blue Andalusion roosters...
I have raised this rooster since he was 1 day old and have raised him with nothing but kindness. Over the last couple of days he has become extremely aggressive.
He straight out attacks - he comes at you with both feet and does not back off. If you block the first attack he comes back again...

We live in California in Lake Hughes. When are your puppies due? We miss our boy so much! I still have a hard time believing he is gone. Still cry about losing him sometimes. He was one of those "once in a lifetime" dogs.
I have 5 BLRW hatching eggs that are from quality stock that I will give to someone local that can hatch them and in return I just want to be kept updated on how they turn out.
They are the first eggs from the hen and rooster I have. My incubator is down for the count and I don't want the eggs...

Do you have Raccoon's in your area? Sounds like Raccoon's. They will rip entrails out. They are pretty sneaky.
The pushed roof isn't from your chickens, it's from the predator. If it is a Raccoon they will be back.
Do you have a video camera you can set up? Once you know what you are dealing...
