Yikes! Nasty cyst on cheek! ***graphic***

I just want to say this could be avian TB. We are having to cull our flock due to one hen having this, it presented as an ocular lesion and when we had it removed, the pathology report indicated avian TB. Not a great thing to have in your flock as it is zoonotic. A devastating diagnosis for us.

    Avian TB diagnosis

Thanks everyone. Can we have chickens again do you think? We were already planning to build a new coop and re-locate it. We might wait a year I guess.

Everything I read says we should probably cull the flock :hit

    Avian TB diagnosis

OUr Lavender Orpington had surgery on a sinus last week and the dr just called with the pathology report: Avian TB. OMG. What should we do? He said he'd treat with a round of penicillin if we wanted to, but to be aware that the other chickens likely could catch it (I mean, wouldn't they...

    Post surgery care?

We had our Lavender Orpington's swollen eye operated on Thursday. It was a tumor, not an infection as we originally thought. It was done by a vet with some bird experience, although not maybe a lot of chicken experience. She got an antibiotic shot before surgery and we are supposed to put...

    Surgery for sinus abscess?

Here's the thing though, we've tried to remove the pus, and so did the vet, and she just can't handle it. So it seems to me that surgery under anesthesia is the only way now. I don't know that I am uncomfortable having this vet do it.

    Surgery for sinus abscess?

We finally took our Lavender to the vet. She's had a bubbly eye that has now turned into something worse. Denagard, Tylan, Terramycin, nothing has helped, so we thought we'd get the vet to drain it. He tried but she was so stressed "he was afraid she'd die". So he suggested doing it under...

    Below freezing temps

We brought our girls into crates in the basement. Couldn't keep waterers unfrozen, all are on medicated water right now anyway.

    Mycoplasma question

How long does denagard keep? We got some 3 years ago, are using it now. The expiration date isn't past but I can't swear it's been kept at the right temps all these years...

CRD Chicken, bitter cold, what should we do?

How? I have some D drops, just add to the water? Hadn't thought of that. I assume during the day we'll still put them out, although maybe not on the most bitter days. (I am keeping the window in the basement cracked because I know they will be hot even in our mostly unheated basement).

CRD Chicken, bitter cold, what should we do?

We brought everybody in. Everybody has denagard in their water, they are in a couple big crates in the basement. This is going to be a weird week. Typically in a cold snap like this they don't even leave their coop during the day, but I don't think they are going to want to stay in the basement.

CRD Chicken, bitter cold, what should we do?

The good news is our Lavender is responding to the denagard treatment and seems less ill. She has been out with her friends during the day but we crate her overnight and she is drinking from the dedicated, treated water and I think getting a good enough dose to abate the CRD (yes I know it's...

Mixing Tylan and Denagard IS THAT OK

Thank you so much for your support and info. We will try harder to get this under control and getting that pus out.
