Is there any chance she could have done this because she was disturbed? I agree that she is not looking like a good mother at this point. I have never had this happen before, but I haven't had many broody experiences either. It's not normal for them to put the hatching eggs in front of them is...
I'm not sure how these two that she beat up are are doing. They are breathing, but not really moving around or chirping much, although that could be normal for a newborn. I haven't seen them walk at all.
I have a "make-shift" incubator, but it doesn't have anything to circulate the air. I'm so worried about taking them and them not surviving because I took them. I want to monitor the temp and humidity for at least 24 hours. Will these 3 be okay in the brooder coop I have set up for baby chicks...
I do not have an incubator to use...my bulb is out. Do you think this light will keep these guys warm enough and let them finish? I'll try to get mine up and running to that as the others start to hatch I can have it in the incubator. It's currently 77 degrees dropping to 57 for a short period...
I have a broody that is sitting on way to many eggs...15 they are all at different rates.
Got home today to 3 hatching but they were not under her at all. She had them sitting on front of her, not sure if that is normal.
I walked out of the coop to start getting food and water ready for her...
I mainly want to keep them I there longer because my cats and dogs go after the really tiny chicks, but if they are a few weeks they will leave them alone. Also, the rain is so heavy that water is a couple of inches I. Some areas outside if the coop.
I have shavings in the top of the coop and I also put a the single nesting box with shavings that she had been sitting in there. I just picked the entire thing up and moved it in there. There are shavings under the box and in it. I could get a small lantern to put in there. I'm a little worried...
My hen(thay was my first incubator hatch!) has eggs hatching now, she has hatched 2, 3rd in progress. I moved her and clutch to our "baby coop" yesterday because I came home and 1 chick was missing completely. Although she was at ground level of the main coop with everything she needed, that...
So when she got up I marked her eggs, but she went back to a different box of eggs later. I'm not sure about fertility either. I got rid of 5 roosters a week ago. How long will the new eggs they lay remain fertile? She's only on three now. I have 3 roosters, 1 silkie, 1 banty, and 1(I think blue...
I finally have my first broody hen! I've been wanting one to go broody and now I'm so nervous. I found her sitting on eggs yesterday and she's still there today so I'm assuming this is it. She's about a year and half old golden comet. I'm not sure how many eggs she's sitting on right now, but I...
Thank you! While I was gone the other egg pipped and fully hatched and still no progress from my polish. I went ahead and opened the whole a little. She is chirping but not hatching. It has been 24 hours now. Should I assist completely or wait?
I am currently in lockdown of a very unsuccessful incubation process. I started with 7 eggs, but after incubator issues early on went into lockdown yesterday with only 2 hatchable. One is my polish egg that does not appear to be a banty, although her eggs are small. It should be a polish/silkie...
Thanks. I was considering keeping one large, the silkie and the tiny guy. They are so small they dont cause much trouble. They are free range and sleep in a large shed converted into a coop at night only. I also like to hatch my eggs and I'm wanting to try to do that more often. I've found that...
