We definitely have Jumbo Pekin ducks! Hahaha - you’re for sure they’re ganders?? What’s that little flap under Goose’s neck (the one with angel wing)? They have it but the other one doesn’t.
OK! Here’s the video link I was going to share - what do you think??
Oh and btw, we just got this randomly LARGE egg that is NOT consistent with Laffy’s (our duck) usual egg size....smallest is a chicken, middle is the duck, and then WTH?!? Do we have a goose??
@JacinLarkwell the aggression has been for about a few weeks now...toward my husband and I that is. The eye happened in the last few days I’d say. The limp for about a week now.
yes - I’d be able to separate him. They free range, so they all have space and he’s been keeping his distance a bit...
@FluffyBottomBantams we had a beautiful rooster that was amazing and HUGE! We loved him but unfortunately he died from a dog attack back in May (our neighbor’s 2 golden retrievers got out). I agree that it all depends on the rooster - they can be amazing!
@JacinLarkwell good to know - he's a smart one! Lol he has his 2 or 3 favorites. Doesn’t really mount either which is interesting. I saw him try once and it was almost like he found it awkward and quickly got off LOL
@JacinLarkwell thank you - good to know! That’s what I was thinking, but not sure. We don’t NEED roosters either. We just happen to get them and after growing attached to these cute little things, it’s like “welp - here we go!” Lol fortunately 3 of the 5 are friendly - just bummed about the 2...
What’s the ideal number of roosters to hens??
In our first round of pullets from a close friend of ours, 3 of the 6 wound up being roosters! Fortunately one is a MUTE and not aggressive so he’s fine. The other 2 are aggressive and complete jerks, so just because of the fact that they like...
Wesley, one of our young roosters (only 5-6 months old), has a hurt eye. He’s a polish mix. I noticed a slight limp the other week, but didn’t think anything of it except that it could’ve happened when getting down from a roost inside of the coop. Now that I see the eye, i know he got picked...
I posted this on another spot, but I’m curious about ours too! Are our African geese boys or girls? We see an under flap, but a big knob on top. They are definitely noisy. They have long necks and thick legs. Ryann (the one that doesn’t have angel wing), will come up and circle me often -...
Are our African geese boys or girls? We see an under flap, but a big knob on top. They have long necks and thick legs. Ryann (the one that doesn’t have angel wing), will come up and circle me often - taking and nibbling on my hand and legs. They look and sound like boys, but the little sac...
Thank you for letting me join your community! My husband and I have a little funny farm with our 2 dogs, goats, mini pot belly pig, chickens, geese, and ducks. We love all of our little (and big) characters, but there’s always something that we see where we wish we had people to ask and bounce...
