Here is a half Dominique & half Buff Orpington. Not sure if it's a hen or rooster. I'm anxious to see what it's going to look at when its grown. Anyone else have any of this mixture? We have 2 other young hens that are the same mixture and they're really odd looking birds. They aren't buff...

I personally haven't had good luck with buying from farm stores. I like buying online from Murray McMurray. We've always received healthy chicks that provide nice eggs and genetically healthy babies when we decide to allow some of the hens to set. And we always buy "heritage" breeds. We...

    Dominique Thread!

Our rooster is a Dominique (here in Ky most folks call any chicken that has the black and white barring "Domineckers". Got to love southen folks :) We also have 4 Dominique hens. One of my Black Jersey Giant hens hatched out 3 eggs a few weeks back at that time we had a big Buff Orpington...

I was wondering why one of the hens egg shells is thin?

Yes they're all molting right now. And it is just one hen that's giving us thin shells on her eggs. I am sorry but I have to disagree with you on the DE and digestive tract worms. We've been using it for a while now and I have done a lot of research and from what I've read it will take care of...

I was wondering why one of the hens egg shells is thin?

Yes we give them diatomaceous earth about every 6 weeks or so. We live in an area that is plaqued with worms.

We have around 38 - 39 young hens. (They're 17 months old) We started them out on Naturwise chick start and when they got old enough we switched them to the Naturwise layer pellets.(Right now we're giving them "feather fixer" from naturwise) It seems to be a really good food. Plus they are...

See it is a very small world. Speaking of Harlan County. It has changed so much since we moved it doesn't look the same. So how many chickens do you have?

Very good looking boy......poor Roscoe doesn't have any tail feathers because the other roosters kept them pulled out. Hopefully with there not being any roosters with the hens now except Roscoe they'll grow back in soon :)

    Dominique Thread!

We started out with 5 Buff Orpington roosters, 5 Black Jersey giant roosters and 1 Dominique roosters. The Buff orpington and Black Jersey giant roosters we ended up separating them from the hens because they became so aggressive we couldn't get in the fenced in area with them. Now that the only...

    Dominique Thread!

I have a couple of pics of "Roscoe" but they're not that good. If I can find the time I'm going to take more pics. He's one solid clump of a rooster :) He's 17 months so I believe he's as big as he's going to get. All of the chickens are going thru molt now so most of them look pretty scraggley LOL.

As I get older I keep telling myself that age is just a number..... Of course my old body doesn't see the humor in that statement. It's odd how when we're younger like in our single digit years anyone 54 is OLD!!! Now that I am that age it doesn't seem so old. Anyway We have our flock of 40...

Glad to meet you.....when I was a child the world seemed to be a very big place. (I'm 54 so I'm old) Anyway with the internet the world seems to be getting smaller and smaller . I've got Owensboro, Ky for my location only because it's the biggest town closest to where I'm from No one usually...

Where do u buy your DE? How much does it cost?

If you have a Rural King close by they have it for $12.99 for a 40 lb bag. We use it not only for our chickens but also our cats and dog as a de-wormer.
