    Scotch Plains, New Jersey?

So, I decided to check around the internet again to see if anything new has appeared about owning chickens in Scotch Plains. And I found a notice that I've never seen before, so I assume it has recently been added. It's a notice about reasons not to give chicks as Easter gifts and at the end of...

    Scotch Plains, New Jersey?

Been doing more research and finding more things than I found two years ago when I first started searching. From two years ago, I found that in 2000 Scotch Plains used chickens to see if the West Nile Virus was in the area. That was basically all I found that connected Scotch Plains and...

    Scotch Plains, New Jersey?

Anyone know if one can own chickens in Scotch Plains, New Jersey? I keep looking and while I've found some mentions of chickens and my town, I've found nothing about if I will be allowed to keep them and if I am, how many. I have found that some nearby towns allow chickens or are thinking about...

    Experienced Trader Joe hatchers

I found out the Trader Joe's near us doesn't carry fertilized eggs. Well we still have a Whole Foods nearby that I can check!

Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

Because of birds like Derp and Phoebe, Faverolles have made their way on my list of Chickens I wish to have when I'm able to have some. My must have breeds are Rhode Island Reds (because of my mom's childhood hen, Bitty), Faverolles, and D'Uccles. There are a few other breeds I'd like to own...

    Wanted chicken/poultry books and magazines

Do you have any chicken or poultry books or old magazines lying about that you don't read anymore? Instead of just throwing them out, why not give them to me? I will take anything that you have, no matter how old it is. As long as it is in readable condition, I'll take it. I live in a place...

    Experienced Trader Joe hatchers

I never knew Trader Joe's carried fertilized eggs, either did my mom. But then again we rarely buy eggs from them so we don't normally look at their eggs. Now I know that next time I go to TJ, I will be looking at their eggs to see if ours carries fertilized!

Need a bigger brooder, what would work?

I've heard people on here making brooders out of cardboard melon containers from the supermarket. They say to go to your supermarket and ask if you can have one of their large melon shipping boxes. They might look at you strange, but they're free.

LUCKEE!! Watch our rescued duckling grow... :D

Luckee is so cute! You did such a good thing rescuing this duckling. Good job! I think he/she is a Mallard too, but I know very little about ducks just that he/she looks like Mallard ducklings I've seen.

Found this in the coup this morning

Maybe he made friends with that chicken? I bet that chicken was a bit startled. "What's that slithering thing doing in my nest? Since he's not bothering me, I guess I'll leave him alone."

    Million Dollar Manor :)

It's looking awesome! That is exactly the kind of coop I'd like when I'm able to have chickens in the future. A coop tall enough to stand in, big enough to have a good number of chicks, storage space, and a place I can chill with my chicks inside the coop.

NJ - Sussex County Poultry Fanciers Annual Spring Show

Antique stores? My parents love going to antique stores, I do too but chickens are more important than antiquing. I'll be sure to tell them about everything going on and tell them about Layfayette. If they decide they really don't want to go; they can go into town while I go to the show or if...

NJ - Sussex County Poultry Fanciers Annual Spring Show

Since May 19th is a saturday, I might be able to drag my dad along with my mom to the show. Saturday is the day he normally takes off, yes he typically works six days a week; when he is able to take the whole weekend off we celebrate. Question: for the non-showing/non-selling people, people...
