What weight would the chickens have to be to use the Grandpa's Feeder safely in secure mode? I have Silkies, who are fairly light compared to my Orpingtons.

The Vaseline is also great for coating (lightly) combs and wattles against frostbite. The Monistat cream is my go-to for vent gleet. I'd also add Hen Healer to the list, which soothes and protects pecking injuries without the crazy staining of BluKote.
Definitely protect the feeder so you don’t risk mildew in the food. Water shouldn't be left in the coop as it will contribute to the humidity, and when it gets really cold in there that humidity can contribute to frostbite. Cover any gaps down where the chickens are and where the roosts are...
