That’s actually what I was thinking when I was reading another’s suggestion for shade cloth — doing a shade sail above the hoop house would probably help keep the temp down. (And raising your cover a bit to let some breeze through at the bottom.)
Im also a big fan of growing small trees/bushes...
Hello!
I have five welsh harlequins (3 female, two drakes) that I got as babies in May of 2021. They have been prolific layers, and I think all three females started to brood this past spring/summer (2022), at various times, but we ended up collecting all the eggs when we found them. Anyway...
Hi there! Not arguing— just seeing that some of the items on your lists contradict others I have seen…. Specifically, I’ve seen that honeysuckle is toxic for them, and that day lilies are safe (not to be confused with asiatic lilies, which are not safe). But I do not know anything for certain...
Thank you for weighing in. Do you mind me asking how you can tell? I’ve been trying to find guides, but no luck. And they look pretty different to me (from each other), so I was guessing one of each—but it’s completely a guess for me. Thank you for your help!

I...
I’m very new to chickens, but I’ve been an avid gardener for almost of my adult life (even in patio pots when that’s all the space I had)…but I relate to your sentiment about chickens getting you outdoors in the winter. Even in fall, I tend to let my allergies keep me inside more, and the fact...
Check out Four Season Harvest by Elliot Coleman. After reading this gardening book several years ago, I became thoroughly convinced that every gardener should have ducks (and I felt I very well might die if I didn’t get me some). All that to say, he has descriptions and sketches of his...
Could you build a short-ish pergola or put a few arbors several feet apart to make a tunnel and then plant some vines around them?
just thinking that would fill in fast. 🤔
I was thinking the same thing … leaving some dead vines intertwined in the wire wouldn’t hurt anything and would likely give shade a protection.
I would suggest thinking through the setup and giving it a try…. You’ll learn what works and what doesn’t quickly, and you can tweak things as you...
