I use hay in my pens but only as something for them to scratch in and rest their feet off the wire. I just pull a flake apart and divide among about four cages and as they play in it, It slowly falls thru the wire and when all gone, I add more. I know this is different than your plans but...
I use the horizontal nipples starting at 6 weeks. They have no problem figuring it out as long as they have no other option. You did right by giving them back their waterers but keep trying and they'll get the hang of it
I won a gift certificate and figured I'd buy a new incubator. My choices are a mini advance or eco 20. I have a Genesis 1588 and rarely fill it up so kind of looking forward to a smaller incubator. I like the actual size of the mini plus it has the readouts and Turner. However, for only a few...
If you could situate all the eggs in their cartons in the incubator, you could turn them by just propping up one side of the incubator and then propping up the other side when it's time to turn them. This will alleviate the need to touch 100 eggs but that's if you can get them all stood up and...
Thank You for the reply. I have a Genesis 1588 for bigger hatches so I'll still have a bigger incubator. I have read where people complain bout the octagon not having much headroom in them for hatching but you seem to think its plenty of space. The single biggest thing about the mini to me is...
ok guys, I have found myself in a predicament and I need some help from those with experience. I'm fixing to get a new incubator and its between a Brinsea mini advance or the octagon eco 20. I'm leaning towards the mini as it has the turner and is small in size. Most of my hatches would fit in...
I've had them sometimes have to go a few hours and get thirsty before they'd show any interest in my showing them but they always seem to figure it out, as long as there's no other source
Thanks for the advice. I've done lots of research and talking before I bought these. Even after the purchase, Robby at jmf has been so helpful and has answered every question I've had. My pens are set up to have 6 or 7 hens to 1 male and I'm not too worried about over populating as my main focus...
These are jumbo coturnix from james marie farms. I tried bobwhites last year and they are much too fragile and wild for my liking. These coturnix were sluggish for the first couple of days, but when I got home from work yesterday, they were a lot more lively however not wild like the bobwhites.
