YO GEORGIANS! :)

Reading all these posts about the various ailments you people have makes me really glad I am immortal.
I don't think the higher ups would do that to the human race.

I think you welcomed me when I joined but I don't post much. I'm on Collier Road just off the Old Dalton Road. We are really close neighbors.
I got my chicks last May, they are 8½ months old, I have 14 Buff Orpington hens/ 1 rooster, 5 Black Australorps and one Easter Egger.
This cold weather is keeping me closer to the fire so I spend more time at the computer.

I will have to get hatching eggs from you!! soon remember we are neighbors so sell cheap lol

Wasn't GAM. She got the same text.
well guess none of us were the big winners,

You made the right choice. The Coturnix quail are so much easier and they grow faster and start laying at like 8 weeks. We got carried away and ended up with hundreds in no time. Only thing I would recommend is not keeping many males. They are breeding machines and will breed the hens to death. We kept 1 male for every 5 hens and even dropped it to 1 for every 8. Like I said, breeding machines. We had 1 Bob White female in with all of them and they never tried to breed her or maybe she never allowed them to. We tried to incubate her eggs several times and none were ever fertile.

One thing I did notice about all of ours, if we approached their coop wearing red, they would panic and I mean go crazy. Other than that, they were really docile, and I mean walk in and pick them up, but that is if you spend time with them as chicks. We worked a lot through one hatch and those were a little more wild.

Thanks for the advice. I've done lots of research and talking before I bought these. Even after the purchase, Robby at jmf has been so helpful and has answered every question I've had. My pens are set up to have 6 or 7 hens to 1 male and I'm not too worried about over populating as my main focus is meat. Have a few standing orders already lined up so that'll help offset my costs.

You live in a subdivision?

Yes, sadly I do. My direct neighbors are all teachers mainly in Rome. They knew I raised chickens for years and thought I should get back into it. We all get eggs, they get pics and videos of chickens to show to their students and I get to have chickens. WE ALL WIN!!

I was looking at a few properties in the country the past few days. So I am working on getting out. LOL

I completely understand. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis about 10 yrs ago. My thyroid is very bad and I take a high dose. I used to love when the air turned cold but just can not stand it now. I hurt all over when I get cold.

My sister inlaw is 35 and she was just diagnosed with Hashimotos. Others including her husband think she should just shake it off and get up and get going but she says it isn't that simple. She is having a really hard time with it.

I was having this conversation just recently. People who don't suffer some kind of chronic illness or pain have no idea. Even those who live with us. My wife see's me suffer, she knows how bad I tell her I hurt and she can see the evidence of it, but even at that, while she may be a witness, she doesn't experience it herself.

No it wasn't her I was discussing it with, it was someone else. I had an outright argument with someone once about that very thing. She has a disabled child and yes she witnesses it and suffers along with her, but she doesn't experience it herself and she might think she knows what the daughter goes through, but unless she suffers that same pain, she really doesn't.

That run I'm building? I had half that done two weeks ago. Took me all day today to do the other half, and this evening I can barely walk. But those days I can get out and do stuff, I do it. I'm gonna hurt anyway, I might as well try to accomplish something, so what if I don't get dressed and leave the house for a few days after

Weird polish colors

Idk. I have so many varieties but wants some cool new breeds to hatch.

I bet you can still move around because you make yourself. I know two people who need to move around and they don't so now they really can't, but they wouldn't be in that bad of shape had they kept up with a tiny bit. I have issues and like you, I may be down for a couple of days but hey least I'm moving and now they complain that they can't sleep well move around and you will be able to sleep instead of catnapping of and on all night and day.
