I kept this guy back because he's about 2/3 the size of my best brood cock and I think he'll lose some of the long feathers after his first molt (he's already getting bare spots on his wings that aren't visible in my poor pictures). While not something I'd show I feel he's going to be the game...
I'm relatively new to breeding pheasants and looking for info from people who keep or have kept Ceylons. Especially interested in what age they become sexually mature but anything species specific that you have to offer is appreciated. Thanks in advance
Sorry to keep blowing up a long forgotten thread but I couldn't help but share pics of the girl. I didn't produce her (bought her as a pullet last year). I wasn't too sure about her initially but aside from a couple minor flaws I love the way she's maturing. These pictures really don't do her...
I didn't know any of that, thank you. I'm not at a point of having the luxury of breeding for color yet ( I get a lot of dirty barred and blue crele). I'm not real sure how they expect us to get that color wheaton on KS hens but.... we'll see. We're already so far removed from Japanese type that...
Really proud of this four month old. I know there are much better birds out there but I've come a long way from my humble beginnings. Was really hoping for a crele but it looks like he'll be a dirty barred.
I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it for myself but it's 39° in south Georgia this morning (cold for us this time of year) and all the outside KS are no worse for the wear, including these 2020 growouts.
I haven't ever shipped and don't plan to start with chicks but if you're still looking by the time fall comes around I'll have some young Hulsey stock available. These aren't from glamor lines (gff, etc.) they're from pit fowl lines and behave as such.
