  • Hi! I'm also in NJ, Warren Township, and new to chickens. My one cuckoo bluebar is now 8 weeks old; I'm pretty sure she's a she at this point. How old was yours when she started to lay? I've read some places that they are "precocious." Mine certainly feathered earlier than the Black Australorps and Austra Whites I brooded at the same time. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello!

Hi there! Yay to chickens in New Jersey:) Inga laid her first egg at about 21 weeks old:) It was a little small-- about 33 grams. Now she's laying eggs that are about 50 grams each. I'm not sure if the shorter days may make your girl take a little more time to lay. Who knows? I wonder how many things factor into the egg laying (diet, daylight, etc.). Let me know if yours lays soon! Nice to meet you:)
