Andirae, how is your ducko doing now? I have one with exactly the same issue as you've described...seems otherwise fine, but struggling to speak and her breathing gets hoarse sometimes :(
Thank you for checking! Get this...vet took X-rays and says she has a fractured toe and believes this could be causing this much discomfort for her. He thinks she started to heal and then aggravated it again recently, causing the swelling and general indications of being in pain. I'm so...
Hey all, I just went to get her out of the coop before the auto-door let her out to her food to check her crop, and it seemed empty and her breath was fine (so no sour or impacted crop either). She actually seems a little better this morning, voice closer to normal pitch and wings a little...
Thank you for taking a moment to respond, and so quickly! (Not to mention all the advice you've offered here over the years, you've inadvertently helped me a number of times as a new duck owner).
She's on Mazuri waterfowl diet, which I've heard is about the best thing they can be on. She's also getting peas and is 1.5 years old, so I don't think niacin would be a concern.
Thank you. I can grab a picture, but to be honest they look totally normal other than the slightly swollen toe at this point. She is on TMS antibiotic and an nsaid painkiller. I'll be taking her to the avian vet first thing Monday.
Do you think the leg injury could be what's bothering her even though she's walking totally normally again? I'll start measuring her food intake, thanks for the suggestion.
Thank you for your insight, you must know a whole lot more than I do after having ducks for 14 years and I'm grateful you responded.
They only examined her by sight and feel, didn't run any tests like X-rays or testing stool samples.
They have her on 1ml TMS antibiotic ever 12 hours and 1ml...
I was definitely afraid of that. Luckily she is still eating a fair bit, but I'll continue to monitor her symptoms and eating and I'll be taking her to the avian vet first thing Monday either way.
I posted a few weeks back after Chicky started limping badly on her right leg. The vet didn't see any signs of a break and gave her pain killers, and she gradually started walking normally again and we figured that was that.
I noticed yesterday that she was moving slow, hunched posture, far...
Thank you for checking! She seems to be doing about the same, but the vet didn't seem too concerned it was a break. He gave us some pain killers and told us to try and keep her resting for two weeks, and if she doesn't improve we can do X-rays to rule a break out for sure.
Sometime around 11am something must have happened to Chicky (1-year-old khaki), because she started limping on one leg. No visible wounds or sores, no swelling or heat, can't feel any break in bone if I try (but I'm not confident whether I could find something like that). She's gotten worse...
Hi LAllen! I too am chipping in on the old thread with the same question about my cayugas (at the tips of their toes). Did you ever identify the cause or have much of an issue with this?
