    Best Isolation/Retirement Home Coops?

She is only eating and drinking when the others are out in the run or when I'm there to make sure she doesn't get attacked. She can walk. Weight loss yes, gross/very stinky poop. Crop is fine - honestly I don't think she eats enough for it to warrant a huge emptying

    Best Isolation/Retirement Home Coops?

We have 26 chickens total currently. Our chicken run is 16'x40' and the coop is 14'x20'. She used to be social, but she is picked on constantly and always hides and sleeps in the box all day/night unless I come out there to protect her so she can eat/drink.

    Best Isolation/Retirement Home Coops?

Hi, We have a 3.5 year old Isa Brown who has slowed down and lost weight. She is bullied and spends most of her time in the nesting box. We did section off a little spot for her in our chicken run but we decided we should just get her her own space where she won't be afraid to leave the box...

Broody behavior in older Isa Brown?

I believe all of our new babies from last summer started laying over the fall

Broody behavior in older Isa Brown?

I have an update. I attached pics of her poop from in the nesting box. She spent most of the day in the boxes today... but I found this really tiny egg (pic attached and egg next to a regular egg for size comparisons) in one of the boxes. Do you think it could've been hers?

Broody behavior in older Isa Brown?

Her tail feathers are mostly up during the day. I don't really think she's swollen. She's definitely lost some weight overall, i'm not sure if it's just the breast area. I cleaned their poop already today so maybe i can tomorrow but it's runny and yucky. Should i make her a scrambled egg? Maybe...

Broody behavior in older Isa Brown?

Well she has been slowing down for a long time and we've been preparing ourselves for awhile but she is a tough chickie. I hope she'll be okay but we've been blessed to have her for 3.5 years. One other from her batch passed from egg yolk peritonitis in 2022 so i know they don't live too long

Broody behavior in older Isa Brown?

Her vent has been dirty for awhile but it's been cold so we haven't cleaned it up. We can try a CaCO3 tablet. How could she be egg bound if she hasn't laid since like last spring? Can they have a tablet even if she isn't egg bound?

Broody behavior in older Isa Brown?

No not swollen (at least as of late/rn, don't want to jinx it), diet is calcium Purina crumbles with grit in them, scratch, bugs once a day for everyone and occasional scrambled eggs and spinach when it's on sale at the store

Broody behavior in older Isa Brown?

Hi everyone, This isn't really an emergency but I didn't know where else to ask this. We have a going-on-4 year old Isa Brown (we did not realize how many reproductive issues the Isas had when we originally bought them, but I guess they tend to have a lower life span). She is really slowing...

Do chickens pass from natural causes (old age)?

Most of ours are molting right now, our older one is not so that’s weird as it’s opposite from your experience. Ours I’d say spends her day 50/50 scavenging and sleeping. Maybe more sleeping, 60/40? She has always LOVED food so she’s always out. The last few days I’ve been taking her inside...

Do chickens pass from natural causes (old age)?

Thank you! They both were Americaunos. Liberty died in the spring and Justice died sometime last year (yes, Liberty and Justice). We also have a chicken with a respiratory infection who seems to be getting better but passed it to a younger chicken. We don’t really have the money to get a vet...

Do chickens pass from natural causes (old age)?

Oh, I’m so sorry for your loss. Our hens feel like part of our family and I’m sure yours do too. I don’t want her to suffer at the end and a minute feels like an eternity. Maybe it’s not. Do you think the younger bird played a role? We have had 2 pass away from heart attacks as well but they...
