I started giving my 2 week old chicks mealworms as a treat when I would let them out of the brooder onto my terrace. Didn't know about grit. Loved the way they would play tug a war or keepaway. They would peck at gravel or dirt or whatever was on the tiles. I guess that's grit.
Once you cul there's no going back. I would give her more time. She is very young from what your post says. As long as the other chicks are safe I would give her another chance. Its possibel that the bigger chicks will let her know it's not ok. Also when you see her pecking you can tap her head...
I'm joining this posting late. Have a staggared hatch with chickens and one duck egg. All the chickens that will hatch happened last weekend. 8 out of 12 shipped BCMS and 5 out of local 'I dont know what they are' eggs. I cant wait for ducky to hatch. I'm so ready to clean out the incubator...

Sush up.... We are gonna get it too and I wont be home to do anything about it if my house loses power. I just hope the 1000cc bag of saline I have in there will be enough of a heat sink to help them through until I get home to try and do something.
Why do we have to have another...
Also, once your temp stabolizes it's good to take the top off the incubator for a few minutes each day. Like broody hen getting off the nest for food and R&R.
1) I left the red plugs in until lockdown then I remove them if humidity or temp gets too high.
2) Depends on the temp of you eggs. Dont worry. It will take a while.
3) Anything between 99 and 102 worked for me.
4) place your thermometer on top of the eggs. The temp varries from top to...
Seems like I've been in lockdown forever. Have a staggard hatch with chickens and one duck egg. the chickens mostly hached last weekend. 8 out of 12 BCMS from e-bay and 5 local not sure what they are eggs. Turned out to be cute little chicks. Imagine that. So now I'm waiting for ducky. Day 28...
Sorry, no idea but I'm hatching a duck egg for the first time as well so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. I stopped turning on day 25 and thought ducks hatched on day 28 or so.
I thought I'd RSVP'd already but I guess not. I will be there but have no idea what I will be bringing or what I will take home. Will feel like a kid in the candy store from the look of things.
I started giving mine mealworms at about 3 weeks. And yes, it did start a riot. I would let them out on the porch and give out one worm to each at a time. They were so busy running around trying to keep the worms away from each other they would forget to eat them. A great way to get exercise...
Took Gimpy to my local pet store. Owner has raised chickens in the past. The left knee is all swollen and red.I tried splinting just the L leg but that made it worst. Are you saying you tape the 2 legs together? Also, the thigh is moving but the foot is limp. Thanks for the link BrattishTaz.
It doesn't seem to be suffering although I do see the other chicks pecking at it occasionally. I don't want to rush into anything like culling if I don't have to. I'll just keep an eye on Gimpy for now. Thank you for the advice.
